Kia Sorento spotted testing again on Indian roads Premium SUV may launch with hybrid and plug-in hybrid options Sorento could become Kia’s new flagship SUV in India
Kia India appears to be moving ahead with plans to bring the Sorento SUV to the country. The premium three-row SUV has now been spotted testing again on Indian roads, hinting that the launch could be getting closer.
The latest test mule was seen near Delhi on NH-8 and carried temporary red registration plates from Pune. Earlier this year, the Sorento was also spotted near Kia’s testing operations, suggesting that the company has already begun extensive road testing for Indian conditions.
If launched, the Sorento will become Kia’s most premium ICE SUV in India and could sit above the Seltos in the lineup.

Even under heavy camouflage, the Kia Sorento’s large size and SUV stance are easy to notice.
The SUV is expected to feature Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, sharp LED headlamps, stylish tail lamps, and large alloy wheels. Previous sightings hinted at 19-inch alloy wheels with wide 235-section tyres, adding to its premium road presence.
Globally, the Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length and comes with a long 2,815 mm wheelbase. This gives it enough room for a spacious three-row cabin.
When launched in India, the Sorento will rival SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, and the upcoming MG Majestor.
The Sorento is expected to offer a premium interior with multiple seating options. Kia may offer both 6-seater and 7-seater layouts, including captain seats for the middle row in higher variants.
Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, premium Bose audio system, electronic parking brake, multi-zone climate control, and soft-touch materials across the cabin.
The SUV is also likely to get Level-2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, collision warning, and other advanced safety technologies.
One of the biggest talking points around the India-spec Sorento is its expected electrified powertrain options.
Reports suggest Kia may launch the SUV with a strong hybrid setup or even a plug-in hybrid powertrain. A regular petrol engine could be offered in limited numbers, while the chances of a diesel engine currently appear quite low.
This would allow Kia to position the Sorento as a modern premium SUV focused on efficiency and lower emissions while still offering strong performance.
With hybrid technology becoming more popular in India, the Sorento could attract buyers looking for a large family SUV with better fuel economy than traditional diesel-powered rivals.
Kia has not officially confirmed the Sorento for India yet, but repeated road tests strongly suggest the SUV is under serious consideration.
The company is expected to launch the Sorento sometime in 2026. If priced competitively, it could become an interesting alternative to both monocoque premium SUVs and ladder-frame rivals like the Toyota Fortuner.
