New Car Buying Platform
Over the last few years, the two-wheeler and last-mile mobility segment has witnessed a flurry of EV activity, but the passenger car segment still lags. One of the main reasons behind this is the lack of intent from car makers. But with new EV policies and increased effort from the government, brands are all set to gear towards EV adoption. In 2022, the sales of electric cars increased by 211 percent when compared to the same duration in 2021. Given the new enthusiasm for EVs, automobile manufacturers are planning to launch exciting new electric vehicles in India. This blog highlights the list of upcoming EVs in the Indian market.
One of the major players in the Indian EV market, Tata Motors is all set to convert all its models based on the ALFA-Arc into EVs. The homegrown manufacturer will expand its EV model line-up with the launch of Tata Altroz EV and Tata Punch EV. Both models could make their debut at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2023. The Altroz EV is expected to draw power from a 30kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack, while the Punch EV will share its powertrain with the recently launched Tiago EV. Both cars are expected to return about 300 kilometres of driving range on a single charge and offer multiple regen-modes for range extension. Expect the models to sport features like a floating touchscreen, iRA-connected car technology, dual airbags, and ABS with EBD. The upcoming Tata Altroz EV is expected to be priced around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Punch EV will be coming in cheaper at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
First showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, Mahindra cars is planning to launch eKUV100 and XUV400 EV models in the country. eKUV100 will be a fully electric version of the KUV100, while the XUV400 is an extended electric version of the XUV300. The Mahindra eKUV100 will feature a 15.9kWh battery, giving it a range of 120 km on a single charge. The electric motor will churn out 54.4hp of maximum power and 120Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the more powerful XUV400 EV will feature a more powerful 39.5 kWh battery pack giving it a total range of around 456 kilometres on a single charge. Once launched the XUV400 will offer electrifying performance, which will set a new benchmark in the segment.
Hyundai Motor India is all set to launch its globally popular born electric product, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 in the domestic market. As part of Hyundai's new EV strategy for India, the IONIQ 5 is expected to hit the Indian shores before the end of 2022. The starting price of Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to be around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming electric car model will share its powertrain specification with the KIA EV6 and offer a 77.4 kWh long range battery pack providing a total driving 500 kilometres on a single charge. We expect the car to be offered with both Rear-Wheel-Drive and All-Wheel-Drive configurations.
