Stalwarts of the sub-4-metre SUV segment go head to head; Offer the best in class safety
Maruti Suzuki recently introduced the All-New Brezza in India with a host of styling and powertrain updates. In its latest avatar, the SUV is aiming to take back its number 1 position from the current segment leader; the Tata Nexon. How are both these vehicles different from one another, let us find out in our comparison based on price, variants, dimensions, features and powertrain.
Operating in a price sensitive market, the Tata Nexon and the New Brezza are aggressively priced and offer an overall value for money package. The Tata SUV price starts from Rs 7.55 lakh and extends to Rs 13.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-of-the-line XZA+ Kaziranga Diesel AMT variant.
On the other hand, Maruti’s SUV is priced from Rs 7.99 for the base LXi trim and goes all the way to Rs 13.96 lakh (ex-showroom) for the ZXi+ dual-tone Automatic variant. Despite lacking a diesel engine, the Brezza is clearly the most expensive of the two.
The Nexon’s line-up is spread across 7 trim levels, namely XE, XM, XM(S), XZ+, XZ+ (O) and XZ+(P) . Based on the powertrain option selected, the four-wheeler is offered in a total of 58 variants. Broken down further, they include 16 petrol manual trims followed by 15 diesel manual, 15 petrol automatic and 12 diesel automatic variants.
In contrast to that, the Brezza is offered in 6 trim levels namely LXi, VXi, ZXi, ZXi Dual Tone, ZXi+ and ZXi+ Dual Tone. All these variants are available with manual transmission, while the automatic range starts from the VXi variant.
In terms of length the Brezza is longer than the Nexon by just 2mm, while the latter is wider than the former by 21mm. The Maruti vehicle is taller while Tata’s four-wheeler offers a better ground clearance of 209mm. Despite all the variations, the wheelbase of both the SUVs is identical at 2500mm.
Another area where the Nexon trumps the Brezza is in terms of the boot space. It offers 350-litres in comparison to 328-litres provided by its competitor.

The Nexon offers a slew of important equipment like a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Its iRA Connected Car Tech provides features like what3word navigation, natural voice tech which supports Indian accent, a reverse camera assist and more.
But when it comes to Brezza, the latest avatar is leaps and bounds ahead of its competitor offering segment-first features like a Heads-Up Display and a 360-degree parking camera. Other significant equipment onboard include ambient lighting, electric sunroof, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system with Arkamys surround sound and the next-gen Suzuki Connect Technology.

The Nexon is offered with 2 engine options namely a 1.2-litre Turbocharged Revotron petrol and a 1.5-litre Turbocharged Revotorq diesel. Both powertrains can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT transmission. The turbo petrol is the more powerful of the two with 120 bhp of maximum power, while the diesel engine has more torque of 260 Nm.
Contrary to this SUV, Brezza is only available in a single 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine mated to a 12V mild-hybrid system. The powertrain is paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.
