The Indian consumer has always had fuel economy as a primary factor when purchasing a new car. This factor becomes even more important when fuel prices are skyrocketing. It also plays a role when you have a budget of around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Today, we take a look at the ‘Top 5 Most Fuel-Efficient Cars Under 10 Lakh’.
The Celerio has been among the best-selling cars in India regularly for some time now. Maruti released the second-gen model last year featuring an all-new design, updated interior along with added features, and a tweaked powertrain. The Indian automaker offers the Celerio in both petrol and CNG variants. The 1-litre three-pot K10C churns out 66 bhp and 89 Nm of peak torque in the petrol trim while the CNG variant delivers 56 bhp and 82.1 Nm power figures.
The company claims an economy figure of 25.24 kmpl for the manual and 26.68 kmpl for the AMT variant. The CNG model has a 35.6 km/kg of claimed mileage figure. Maruti Celerio price starts from Rs 5.25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the LXI trim, going up to Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom) for the ZXI Plus AMT variant.
The Wagon R has been around in the Indian market for over two decades. Even now, its combination of spacious interior, small footprint, and frugal powertrains mean it is still a big seller for Maruti. The auto giant offers the Wagon R in both petrol and CNG options.
A fuel-efficient petrol car with a 1-liter naturally aspirated engine produces 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of peak torque. This motor has a claimed fuel economy of 25.19 kmpl with the manual transmission and 24.35 kmpl with the AMT gearbox. In CNG-trim, Maruti claims a whopping 32.52 km/kg mileage.
The 1.2L petrol engine produces 89 bhp/113 Nm, with 24.43/23.56 kmpl fuel-efficiency. Maruti Wagon R starts at Rs 5.47 lakh (ex-showroom) for the LXI and reaches up to Rs 7.20 lakh (ex-showroom) for the ZXI Plus AT Dual Tone.
The Grand i10 NIOS is the latest generation of the popular hatchback. Introduced in 2019, it quickly became among the best-selling models in its segment. The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is a great hatchback choice with its attractive design, creature comforts, features alongside fuel-efficient engines and best mileage cars.
You can opt between 2 petrol and 1 CNG variant for your Grand i10 NIOS. Its 1.2-litre naturally aspirated Kappa engine makes 82 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque in the petrol trim and 68 bhp and 95 Nm of torque in the CNG variant. While the 1-litre Turbo GDi petrol pumps out a maximum power output of 99 bhp with 162 Nm of peak torque.
The Grand i10 NIOS’ N/A petrol claims 20.7 kmpl for both manual and automatic variants while the turbo petrol has a mileage figure of 20.3 kmpl. The recently introduced CNG model claims a fuel economy of 28 km/kg. Prices for the Grand i10 NIOS begin from Rs 5.43 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Era model, going up to Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top Asta CNG variant.

Upon its launch in 2021, the Renault Kiger became one of the most affordable compact SUVs you could buy in the country. Attractive styling, a feature loaded interior, and efficient powertrain options made the Kiger an instant success in India. The Kiger is offered with a single petrol engine, but in two states of tune.
The compact SUV has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 20.5 kmpl for the manual trims and 19.03 kmpl for the automatic variants, making it among the most fuel-efficient choices in its segment. Renault India has priced the Kiger at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level RXE variant while the top-end RXZ Turbo CVT DT trim comes in at Rs 10.62 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Toyota Glanza is the close sibling of the Maruti Baleno. Both look very similar, but Toyota has given the hatchback a few visual differences like a different front grille. The Glanza also gets a different warranty period.
Powering the Glanza is a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine that makes 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a CNG-powered variant that delivers a power output of 77 bhp and 99 Nm torque. The Glanza’s petrol manual variant has a claimed mileage figure of 22.94 kmpl while the automatic trim offers a fuel efficiency figure of 22.35 kmpl. The CNG variant claim a 30.61km/kg economy figure. Prices for the Toyota Glanza range between Rs 6.59 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
