Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched its premium hatchback the Glanza in March 2022. After its launch, the Glanza instantly took the market by storm alongside the New Generation Baleno which was already present in India. Both premium hatchbacks became direct rivals.
Besides Baleno, the Glanza also took on the likes of Tata Altroz in the segment. What do these premium hatchback cars have in common? Read a detailed comparison between Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza including their specifications, mileage, and pricing.
As far as engine and transmission are concerned, the Baleno and Glanza have similar power output. Both these models offer a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K12 petrol engine mated with a 5-speed manual or the AMT gearbox. This engine can produce around 88 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque.
Tata Altroz, on the other hand, has more variations in terms of engine and transmission. It offers both petrol and diesel variants. However, Altroz gets only two engines, including a 1.2-litre petrol and its turbo variant alongside a 1.5-litre diesel unit. This model has an output of 86-90 bhp and 113-200 Nm torque.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza score higher in terms of mileage. Both the premium hatchback cars offer a mileage of 22.3 kmpl in manual and 22.9 kmpl in automatic variants. Compared to this, Tata Altroz provides around 18.53 kmpl in the manual variant.
However, the diesel variant of Altroz offers 23.3 kmpl. All figures mentioned here are ARAI-certified.
Toyota Glanza 2022 is available in four trims with manual and automatic variants. While the manual gearbox option is available across trims, the automatic transmission has been included for the top three trims, S, G, and Z.
The pricing of Glanza starts at Rs 6.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.24 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end trim. The model is slightly more expensive than the Maruti Baleno as it is priced at Rs 6.35 lakh (ex-showroom). In fact, the top-spec Baleno is affordable as well if we compare it with the Glanza.
Tata Altroz, on the other hand, is affordable too. Starting from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) for the XE petrol manual, the maximum price of Altroz is Rs 9.13 lakh (ex-showroom) for the costliest petrol variant. Its top-spec XZ + 1.5-litre diesel manual costs Rs 9.73 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Glanza is the rebadged model of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Both premium hatchbacks offer good fuel economy. On the other hand, the Tata Altroz is packed with good features and offers smooth ride quality. However, Altroz might disappoint you with its 1.2-litre petrol as it lacks power but the 1.5-litre diesel option is a better choice over the petrol.
When deciding between the three premium hatchbacks, we suggest taking a test drive to choose the one that meets your needs. Hopefully, this comparison helps you to choose the right car among these premium hatchbacks.
