India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the fourth-generation Swift model in India. Priced at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Swift has received major updates for its design and features. An introduction of the new Z-Series engine, improved safety, and more tech features have also been offered on the latest Swift. These significant updates and prices of the latest Swift make a really good comparison with a premium hatchback, Baleno.
If you are considering buying a new Swift or Baleno, here is a quick comparison between these two in terms of features, specifications, and prices.

As seen in the table, the Baleno is larger than the new Swift by 130 mm and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase. It is even wider by 10 mm and has a larger boot space of 318 litres compared to the 265 litres provided in the new Swift. However, the Swift is taller than the Baleno hatchback by 20 mm.
Moving on to the features, both hatchbacks share a similar list of equipment. However, a few of the differences can be seen in both cars. For instance, the Baleno runs on 16-inch alloy wheels while the Swift is offered with 15-inch alloys. The presence of a 360-degree camera is missing on the new Swift which is available in the Baleno hatchback. But the 2024 Swift provides a wireless charger which is not offered in Baleno.
Some of the common features comprise a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android and Apple CarPlay connectivity, cruise control, auto AC with rear AC vents, a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, and a push-button engine start/stop.
In terms of safety, the Swift won the game as it is now available with six airbags as standard across all variants. On the other hand, Baleno has only two airbags as standard though it offers six airbags in the top-spec (Zeta and Alpha) models.

The most unique update given in the fresh Swift is the introduction of the new Z-Series 1.2-litre petrol engine. This engine is more efficient than the older Dual Jet K-Series unit. Compared to this, Baleno still uses the old K12 Dual Jet mill which was available in the third-gen Swift model. However, the power output is better in the Baleno compared to the new Swift. If we talk about the most fuel-efficient hatchback among these, we cannot neglect that Swift is better at offering an impressive mileage of 25.75 kmpl while Baleno only returns 22.94 kmpl.
