MG Motor India, a brand with a 99-year legacy launched its mini electric car, the MG Comet EV in India last month. With its latest entrant, the company has announced a new chapter in urban mobility solutions. Based on the GSEV platform, the Comet EV is appropriate for smooth and stress-free commuting within the city.
In today’s story, we will compare the recently launched MG Comet EV with other affordable electric vehicles including the Citroen eC3 and the Tata Tiago EV.

As far as the length, width and wheelbase are concerned, MG Comet EV is the smallest car currently on sale in India. However, in terms of tallness, Comet EV seems to win with 1640 mm. Meanwhile, Citroen eC3 is the longest and widest out of the three electric cars measuring 3981 mm in length and 1733 mm in width with a wheelbase of 2540 mm.
Battery capacities in this comparison range from 17.3 kWh to 29.2 kWh. The Comet EV (17.3 kWh) gets the smallest battery pack which is rated for 230 km of driving range while the Citroen eC3 with its 29.2 kWh offers the highest range of 320 km. The Tiago EV slots in between the two models and offers two battery pack options. The first is the 19.2 kWh unit rated for a 250 km range while the larger 24 kWh unit returns a claimed range of 315 km.
Both the Tiago EV and the eC3 come equipped with a single motor mounted on the front axle, while in the Comet EV, we get an RWD setup featuring one PMS motor mounted on the rear axle.

Due to its small battery pack and single rear-mounted motor, the Comet is the least powerful car in this comparison. On the other hand, the Tiago EV Long Range model is the most powerful with 74 bhp.

On the features front, the Comet EV has slightly advanced tech over the other two EVs. The MG EV boasts dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrument console. Besides, it comes with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, auto climate control, keyless entry, 100+ voice commands, iSmart with 55+ connected car features, and steering-mounted audio controls (inspired by the original Apple iPod’s design).
On the contrary, the Tiago EV and eC3 provide a 7.0-inch and 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system respectively. Other notable features on these electric cars include wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, keyless entry and a height-adjustable driver seat.
Looking at the pricing, the MG Comet EV is the cheapest electric car in the country. It comes with a price tag of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata Tiago EV, on the other hand, is currently priced between Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Out of these three EVs, the Citroen eC3 is the most expensive one; it comes with a price tag of Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom) which goes up to Rs 12.76 lakh (ex-showroom).
Electric cars are slowly gaining momentum. In addition, it is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. The good part is every customer who is willing to buy a new electric car will have many EV options in different price segments. At present, MG Comet EV is the most affordable electric car in the country with smart technology. However, Tiago EV and eC3 can also be considered if you prefer more space and a better range. After determining all the necessary factors, you can make an informed decision before buying your electric car.
