With the electric vehicle market starting to heat up in India, the new MG Windsor EV and the Mahindra XUV400 will be considered key contenders in the segment. Where the former is scheduled to go on sale on September 11, 2024, entering an already competitively red-hot market with contenders like the Mahindra XUV400, both models will have attractive features and specifications. Therefore, the buyers need to compare the two models.

The MG Windsor EV and the Mahindra XUV400 have two battery options each, but their ranges and capacities are different. MG Windsor EV will be offered with either a 37.9kWh or 50.6kWh battery. The small battery returns close to 360km of range, while the bigger one stretches up to 460km. Translate this for the Indian market, and that should mean an over 500km certified range per charge. This car will be a compact utility vehicle. Dimensions-wise, it will come in at 4295mm in length, 1850mm in width, and 1652mm in height, while its wheelbase comes in at 2700mm.
The Mahindra XUV400 gets a 34.5kWh or 39.4kWh battery pack. The motor makes 147.94bhp and 310Nm of torque, good enough to drive the car from 0-100kmph in just 8.3 seconds. The range for the XUV400 is 375km with the smaller battery and 456km with the bigger one. It measures 4200mm in length, 1821mm in width, and 1634mm in height, while it has a wheelbase of 2600mm. It has 378-litres of boot space too, while the ground clearance stands at 200mm.
Speaking about exterior design, the MG Windsor EV looks largely similar to the Wuling Cloud EV. It gets LED headlights along with an LED DRL strip that is connected, while a charging flap is available on the front fender. Other design elements include subtle lines on the side profile and aerodynamically designed 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, there is an LED light bar connected across, below the tail light with Windsor lettering, making it look sleek and modern.
The Mahindra XUV400 is far more aggressive in design. It gets a closed-off grille with a copper contrast finish and a twin-peak Mahindra logo. There are also LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and a dual-tone lower bumper with copper accents. The tail-end is by and large different from that of the XUV300 and features newly-styled LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, and dual-tone elements that make it sporty.

Inside, the MG Windsor EV boasts a new experience of having a segment-leading 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system inside. The cabin design is clean and minimalistic, as most functions inside are taken care of via the touchscreen. Equipped with a full-width panoramic glass roof, India's first Aero-lounge seats that can recline up to 35 degrees, all-black leatherette seats, and a modern dash design, this is indeed a premium offering.
Inside, the Mahindra XUV400 has a two-tone ivory-and-black color theme with copper accent highlights and an air of class. There is a new steering wheel, a rearranged dashboard, and a digital instrument console. Further, there is a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system that does come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The revised climate control panel with larger physical buttons goes on to further enhance user convenience and thereby the ambiance of the interior.
Safety tends to be one of the most important aspects in which both these cars have fared very well. The MG Windsor EV will come with many such safety features, including adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. It has four airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Mahindra XUV400 gets dual airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, and rear parking sensors as standard. The top-end variants get six airbags, a reverse camera, rain-sensing wipers, light-sensing headlamps, and a hill hold assist.

The price for the MG Windsor EV is likely to fall in the bracket of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, placing this model between the MG Comet and the MG ZS EV. The price, therefore, can easily allow its rival Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Mahindra XUV400 itself.
The Mahindra XUV400 starts at Rs 15.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.49 lakh, hence making it a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV besides being an alternative to the MG ZS EV as well.

Your priorities will decide between going for the MG Windsor EV or opting for another choice, the Mahindra XUV400. The former gives out more range and interior features in a premium design, while the later is sporty and bolsters a different design from most designs out there.
