The MG Windsor EV gets its power from a 38kWh lithium-ion battery and is driven by a permanent magnet synchronous motor at the front axle. With this arrangement, the output given is 134bhp and 200Nm of torque, which gives a single-charge range of as much as 331km. Charging times can vary: a 3.3kW charger takes close to 13.8 hours to do a full charge, while a 7.4kW charger does it in 6.5 hours. While for quicker charging, the 50kW DC charger takes the battery from 0-80 percent in just 55 minutes, the Windsor EV supports up to 45kW of maximum fast charging rate that helps reduce the downtime.
The Tata Punch EV comes with two batteries on offer: a 25kWh and a 35kWh. The base 25kWh battery develops 80.4bhp and 114Nm of torque, promising a range of around 315km. The larger 35kWh battery does 120.6bhp and 190Nm of torque, extending range to 421km. The Punch EV, too, has driving modes - City and Sport on the smaller battery and Eco, City, and Sport on the bigger one. Performance is pretty fair, with the 35kWh doing 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds. Charging options also vary: a 3.3kW AC charger and a 7.2kW AC charger, with the more powerful DC Fast charger needing 56 minutes to take the battery from 10 to 80% charge. The same 0-100% charge with the 7.2kW AC charger would take roughly 5 hours.

The MG Windsor EV is a full-size car with dimensions of 4295mm in length, 2126mm in width, and 1677mm in height on a 2700mm wheelbase. The size thus offers enough interior space and a boot capacity of 604-litres. The ground clearance is 186mm, decent for its size, and hence allows it to achieve a pretty respectable level of capability on a variety of road types.
While the dimensions for the Punch EV read 3857mm in length, 1742mm in width, and 1633mm in height, the wheelbase stands at 2445mm. Irrespective of it being smaller in size, it has 366-litres in its boot space, and the ground clearance is higher at 190mm, making it fit in the cities and soft off-road driving conditions.
The MG Windsor EV’s front, with its long and sleek design element, also has LED headlamps with a connected LED DRL strip and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The front gets clean styling at the bottom with subtle lines on the rest of the body, while the rear portrays its statement with an LED light bar running across the width. Adding to the design would be the flush door handles and the connected LED tail lamps.
Tata Punch EV gets unique design cues, having a bespoke electric design. The styling incorporates a blanked-out front grille with a central charging port, split headlamps with the main unit on the lower bumper, and an LED strip running across the bonnet. It looks sporty at the back, thanks to the sculpted tailgate and wrap-around LED tail-lights. It sits on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

MG Windsor EV's opulence inside is available through the dual-tone interior with gold accents. It gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system housing wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, supplemented by an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display. The cabin gets Aero-Lounge seats with up to 135-degree recline, an infinity glass roof, and 9-speaker audio by Infinity. Other features include a wireless phone charger, 256-color ambient lighting, and MG's iSmart-connected car technology with advanced voice commands.
Inside, the Punch EV is loaded with a premium interior layout that looks awesome for its classy black-beige layered dashboard with Piano Black accents. Then there is a set of two 10.25-inch touchscreens supporting infotainment and the driver display; both supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, leatherette seats, and a wireless phone charger inside. This may be said that this rotary drive controller and many touch-sensitive buttons could feel less intuitive than physical controls.
Some of the definite safety features of the Windsor EV include six airbags, namely the front, side, and curtain, an electronic stability program, or ESP, hill-start assist control and hill descent control. Besides all these, it also has LED rear fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and all-disc brakes.
The Punch EV too packs some serious safety artillery like six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Further up the pecking order come features such as a 360-degree camera and auto-dimming rearview mirror. The top-of-the-line variant also includes additional safety upgrades like rear wipers, auto defoggers, and automatic headlamps.

The MG Windsor EV is priced at Rs 9.99 lakhs, ex-showroom, for only one variant. Further, it has a battery-on-rent price of Rs 3.5 per km, which would also be added up to the overall price depending on annual mileage. As long as this pricing is concerned, the Windsor EV is indeed an affordable one in its segment. It is competing with Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.
The Tata Punch EV variant is placed in the price bracket starting at Rs 10.99 lakh and going up to Rs 15.49 lakh for various variants and battery options. Thus, it sits between Tata's Tiago EV and Nexon EV, offering more choices at higher price brackets concerning features.
The reason to buy an MG Windsor EV would be different from the reason to buy a Tata Punch EV. While the Windsor EV edges its competitor in space, the tech inside, and overall luxury, it's the practical, holistic offering of range options and rugged design that makes the Punch EV very desirable. Your preference will fall to what matters more to you: either roomy and tech-loaded inside the Windsor or compact pragmatism with varied performances of the Punch.
