New Car Buying Platform
2021 was the year when the three-row family SUV came back in style. Tata Motors brought back the iconic Safari nameplate in an all-new model while Hyundai entered the fray with the Alcazar. Then Mahindra commandeered them all with the most anticipated launch of the year, the XUV700. All three vehicles are brilliant SUVs, but which one is the best for you? Spending around Rs 25 lakh for the top models of these SUVs is a considerable investment. To help you make the right decision, we have devised this detailed comparison talking about the design, features, powertrain, mileage and the price of these SUVs.
Exterior design and road presence becomes an important aspect when buying these cars due to their large size. And each SUV in this comparison has a unique design trait that appeals to different sections of the market. While the Tata Safari mesmerizes customers with simple, yet clean design characterized by high bonnet and a stepped roof; The Mahindra XUV700 pleases its audience with an aerodynamic profile, flush-fitting door handles and strong shoulder lines that kink towards the rear of the car. Compared to the other two, the Hyundai Alcazar looks a bit smaller, however, its cleaner features with straight lines give it a chunky on-road presence.
The Tata is the most imposing SUV among the three here and is closely followed by the Mahindra while the Hyundai’s similarities with the Creta robs it of a strong first impression.
Moving to the inside, all three SUVs offer with an additional third row of seating. Both the Tata Safari and the Hyundai Alcazar offer option for both 6-seater (Captain seats) and 7-seater layouts, while the Mahindra XUV700 is only available with bench middle row making it possible to either have it as a 5-searer or a 7-seater. The XUV700 is the longest vehicle in this comparison measuring 4,695mm in length while the Alcazar is the shortest at 4,5000mm. The Hyundai comes back with a lead in the total wheelbase that stands at 2,760mm, 10mm more than the XUV and 20mm greater than the Safari. Despite lacking in number, the Safari feels the most spacious on the inside due to Tata’s clever packing. The Alcazar provides good space in the second row thanks to the long wheelbase but lacks space in the third row making it unsuitable for long distance trips. Like the Hyundai the Mahindra also suffers with space at the back but makes up for it with a slightly larger boot.
