India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Volkswagen Vento replacement, the 2022 Virtus (mid-size sedan) will make its global premiere on the 8th of March. Its expected launch date in India would be May 2022.
Volkswagen’s product portfolio comprises many segment vehicles, the most recent of them have been SUV’s – Taigun. T-Roc and the Tiguan. Come 2022, the German automaker is relooking at its mid-size sedan – the Vento which has been around for more than a decade. The company will be replacing the car with the Virtus which will make its global premiere on the 8th of March 2022 in India. Its launch date is expected to be sometime in May this year. Let us also state that though this will be an all-new vehicle for the Indian market, the Virtus has been around in foreign markets for a while. From that point of view, it was due for an update (facelift) and is expected to be launched in other countries after its India introduction.
When compared with the outgoing Vento, the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus feels much larger in size and premium in appeal. It is based on the MQB A0-IN platform. This is the same platform that is being used in the upcoming Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. LED headlamps, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, leatherette upholstery, connected car technology, keyless entry, sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic climate control, six airbags and more are going to be the key feature highlights of the Virtus.
Powertrain options available in the mid-size sedan would include two petrol engines. First will be a 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that delivers 115 bhp power while the other one would be a 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder turbo petrol producing 150 bhp power output. Transmission options expected to be offered would include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter for the 1.0-litre TSI variant. Whereas the 1.5-litre TSI trim should come equipped with a 7-speed DSG gearbox alongside a 6-speed manual shift. There is a huge possibility that Volkswagen could divide the Virtus variants into Standard and GT Line. When launched, the VW Virtus would compete against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia in the mid-size sedan segment.
