BMW M4 CSL revealed. It is based on the M4 Competition. Limited to 1000 units, the vehicle will be only available in a rear-wheel-drive option.
Two decades after it last existed, BMW has revealed a successor to its CSL nameplate. Introducing the M4 CSL, launched globally to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the M program. CSL stands for “Competition, Sport and Lightweight” and was last seen in 2003 on the E46 M3.
The M4 CSL is based on the M4 Competition but gets more grunt and skips on the xDrive system making it a tail-happy machine. The production of this four-wheeler will commence in July 2022 and is limited to 1000 units.
BMW M4 CSL Exterior Design:
Up front, the car is characterised by a humongous kidney grille and large air intakes. The hood of the coupe gets larger air vent openings outlined in red compared to the M4 Competition. Other differentiating factors include a new front splitter and yellow curved LED DRLs on the headlamps. Towards the rear, the four-wheeler features a large single-piece boot lip spoiler for added down force at higher speeds.
BMW M4 CSL Weight Saving:
Inside the cabin, the CSL gets lighter carbon fibre bucket seats which results in 24 kgs of weight reduction. The rear seats are deleted from the coupe to shave off an additional 21 kgs. To further reduce the sprung and unsprung mass, BMW has skipped the soundproofing materials and used ultra-light materials for the carbon-ceramic brakes, wheels, suspension system, carbon fibre hood and titanium exhaust. This weight saving has brought the four wheeler’s kerb weight to 1625 kg.
BMW M4 CSL Powertrain:
The sports car uses the S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 550 bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque. Compared to the standard M4 Competition, the CSL gets 40 additional horses. The power is channeled to its rear wheels via the 8-speed automatic transmission that helps the car achieve the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.6 seconds and a 0-200 kmph timing of under 10.7 seconds.
BMW M4 CSL Performance Changes:
BMW has tweaked the suspension a bit to make the car sit 0.3 inches lower than the regular M4 Competition. The car now gets fixed type solid rubber ball joints, auxiliary springs and more camber at the front axle. The M Sport ceramic brakes are part of the standard kit along with a track-focused 10 stage track control system. To get the perfect high speed grip on the tarmac the brand offers Michelin Pilot Sport Cup R tyres with the four-wheeler.
BMW M4 CSL Colours:
The M4 CSL is offered in Alpine White and Black Sapphire Metallic colours as standard while the Frozen Brooklyn Gray and Frozen Black are premium options.
