Toyota’s new MPV in India to be called Innova Hycross; Set for a festive season unveil; To get a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid engine
As reported earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is planning to launch two new MPVs in the country. While one is speculated to be the Rumion (rebadged Ertiga), the other will be an all-new car called the Innova Hycross. Now entering the final stage of its development, the Hycross is expected to be introduced in November, during the festive season. At launch this will be the third new product in the brand’s portfolio after the Hilux and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The company is set to aim the car towards urban customers and offer a feature packed cabin. The new MPV will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta which will be solely aimed at the shared mobility segment.
Going by some media reports, the Japanese carmaker will unveil the Innova Hycross in November, while the market launch is scheduled for January 2023. The MPV will sit above the current-gen Innova Crysta which is also expected to get a mid-life update.
Unlike its sibling, the Hycross will skip the conventional ladder frame construction, in favour of the TNGA-C architecture, lighter and agile monocoque construction. Codenamed 560B, the MPV will make use of a new 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to a heavily localised dual motor strong hybrid setup and the diesel will be given a miss. The strong hybrid system will enable the Hycross to return better low-end torque which gives it diesel engine like characteristic. It also expected to come with a car like front wheel drive system.

Based on the several spy shots of the MPV, it is quite clear that the new Hycross will be longer in dimensions than the current generation Innova, freeing more space on the inside. Expected to stand at 4.7 meters in length, the vehicle will be offered with both 6 and 7-seater layout. In terms of design, the distinctive MPV-like styling will continue but get certain details from the Corolla Cross SUV. Inside the cabin, Toyota will equip the MPV with modern tech features like a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats and more.
