Korean automaker Hyundai has confirmed to introduce its long-awaited Creta EV in the country next quarter. Moreover, the company plans to launch 3 more EVs in the mass and mass premium market over the period of next couple of years. All these models will have high level of localization, suggesting aggressive pricing.
The Hyundai Creta EV is reportedly to be launched in January, most probably at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show. Production of the electric SUV is expected to begin in December 2024. The electric SUV will look similar to the regular ICE model, except for the EV-specific design changes. Some of the styling cues will include a closed-off front grille with the charging port, new bumpers, new aero-optimized alloy wheels and others. The cabin will also have similarities with the regular model; however, it will have new Ioniq 5-like steering wheel and other features.
The Creta EV is likely to get a 45kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor, which will be similar to the one offered on the Kona EV. Power and torque output stands at 136hp and 255Nm, respectively. This electric SUV likely to offer a range of up to 450km on a single charge. Expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh, the new Creta EV will rival the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVX.
Other Hyundai EVs will include Inster EV, Grand i10 Nios EV and the next-gen Venue EV. The Hyundai Inster EV is expected to be launched in our market in 2026, while the next Grand i10 Nios EV and Venue EV will arrive in our market sometime in 2026-27. The new Inster will be based on the E-GMP (K) platform. It will rival the likes of the Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3. The electric SUV features NMC battery packs with capacities of 42kWh and 49kWh, respectively. While the former offers a range of up to 300km, the Long-Range model delivers 355km range in a single charge.
