India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
With growing buyer interest in SUVs, Hyundai Motor India plans to continue its premiumization strategy, as its high-tech SUVs maintain a strong grip on a significant portion of the market. The carmaker’s first public quarterly results revealed that 7 out of 10 cars sold in India were SUVs, followed by sedans and hatchbacks with smaller market shares. The OEM registered a substantial sales growth of 68.6 percent, outperforming the industry penetration rate of 54.9 percent.
Hyundai’s premium offerings—the Alcazar (facelift), Creta, Venue, and Exter—have significantly contributed to the company’s total sales. Now, the South Korean automaker is shifting its focus to the mass-market EV (electric vehicle) segment with the Creta EV, which is scheduled to go on sale in January 2025. The company has high hopes for this electric SUV, as it will compete with Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming e-Vitara, the current market leader. Additionally, the Hyundai Creta EV will be the brand’s first "high-volume" electric car, and it’s expected to provide a major range advantage over EVs currently available in India.
It is still early to comment on its full specifications; however, media reports suggest that the Hyundai Creta EV might come with a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor generating 138bhp and 255Nm of torque. The electric SUV is likely to offer a range of around 350km or more. Its upcoming rival, the Maruti e-Vitara, will reportedly feature two battery packs—49kWh and 61kWh—and an optional dual-motor AWD setup.
Visually, the Creta EV will appear slightly different from its ICE counterpart. It is expected to feature a closed-off grille, revised front and rear bumpers, and uniquely designed alloy wheels. While the interior layout and features are likely to be identical to the ICE-powered Creta, the EV version might include a new circular 3-spoke steering wheel and seat upholstery with "CRETA Electric" embossing.
In terms of features, the Hyundai Creta EV is expected to offer a dual-screen setup (including a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster), dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology, an electric parking brake with auto-hold, and more.
