India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
• Expected to go on sale in 2023 • Will be offered in electric and petrol variants • Petrol is to come with a manual gearbox only at first
Jeep earlier announced the Jeepster/ Avenger EV, the automaker’s first fully electric SUV in the global market. Built on a modular platform, the four-wheeler will also spawn a petrol-powered sibling which will be introduced sometime during 2023. Following through its plans, the company has revealed the powertrain details of its smallest SUV on the company’s official online configurator.
The Avenger gets the signature Jeep seven-slot grille flanked by split headlights with sleek DRLs placed right below the bonnet. The side profile features a strong shoulder line and new 18-inch alloy wheels while the rear end gets squared-off taillights with X-shaped LEDs (reminiscent of the Jeep Renegade). Being an SUV, black body cladding covers the lower half of the body.
Moving to the interior, the Avenger follows a minimalist theme with the dashboard keeping physical buttons to a minimum. Most of the features are controlled by the large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit while the fully digital instrument cluster gives key information to the driver. A body-coloured strip runs the width of the dashboard which also seamlessly integrates the AC vents. The four-wheeler is also expected to come with adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and more.
The Jeep Avenger will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor that sends a maximum of 100 bhp to the front wheels, while an AWD model will also go on sale. The same unit is also doing work on the recently launched Citroen C3 in the country. The Avenger will be offered with a manual transmission, with no word on an automatic option yet. The C3, which it shares the modular CMP platform with, will be offered with an auto transmission soon.
Both EV and ICE-powered models of the Avenger will get Jeep’ Selec-Terrain off-road modes – Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, and Mud. The mode changes different parameters to help tackle the given terrain with more precision.
While Jeep is launching the Avenger in Europe in the first half of 2023, it is yet to be known if the automaker will be bringing the SUV to India. The brand is currently getting ready to launch the new Grand Cherokee in the country, rivalling the likes of Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the BMW X5.
