India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
Kia has recently filed a new trademark 'Syros' in India, giving hints to bringing another product to the Indian market. The South Korean automaker also registered the 'Clavis' name last year. We also witnessed two variations of the upcoming Clavis; one for ICE and the other one for the electric version. Speculations are that Kia might name one of these vehicles 'Syros' while the other one could be called 'Clavis'.
According to the media reports, the upcoming Syros is expected to be a battery-powered SUV. While the ICE model is likely to be based on the Kia Sonet, therefore, it is likely to share the same platform and powertrain option as the Sonet. However, it is not likely to get a diesel engine option.
Although there is no information regarding the battery pack of the upcoming electric SUV, the ICE model could be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, the same as the Sonet. This motor can pump out 82 bhp of power with 114 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is also expected to get a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Both manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.
In terms of design, it is believed that both SUVs are expected to be based on the brand's current "Opposites United" design philosophy. The upcoming Kia Clavis will sit between Sonet and Seltos and is expected to measure around 4 meters in length. The SUV will be targeted as a lifestyle vehicle with boxy and rugged design and high ground clearance.
It is expected to be equipped with multiple premium features such as dual 10.2-inch units for infotainment and instrumentation, a radar-based ADAS suite, a panoramic sunroof, and more features.
Test mule that we spotted testing on roads suggests that the launch of the ICE version might be closer while its electric variant might take a while to appear in the market.
