Mahindra & Mahindra is rolling up their sleeves for the highly anticipated launch of the Thar 5-Door in 2024. Recent spy pictures suggest that the interior of the SUV could get new features. Beyond the addition of an extra set of doors and a rear bench seat, the vehicle showcased a host of new equipment over its 3-door counterpart.
We take a closer look at some of these elements which could be added to the 5-Door variant line-up.
The most notable change in the 5-door version is the inclusion of a single-pane sunroof and a larger touchscreen infotainment system on the inside. Unlike the 3-Door, which features a 7-inch screen touchscreen, the upcoming Thar 5 Door is expected to sport a more expansive 10-inch touchscreen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and improved graphics.
Although the rest of the dashboard layout will remain more or less the same, the inclusion of an XUV700-inspired steering wheel is definitely going to add a twist to the cabin. Further, for the convenience of the rear passengers, there will be floor-mounted rear AC vents.
Under the hood, the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door will carry the same powertrain options as the 3-door version. These will include 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel units. While the petrol engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 130 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque, its diesel mill makes 150 bhp and 320 Nm torque. For transmission options, users will have choices of a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox
It is believed that Mahindra will launch the 5-door Thar in early 2024. As of now, there is no direct rival, however, the upcoming Thar might compete against Force Gurkha and Maruti Jimny.
