Maruti Brezza, Baleno, Grand Vitara to be Crash Tested: BNCAP

Maruti Suzuki provides affordable cars, however, in terms of safety, the manufacturer has often been ridiculed. But now, the company is making a move to improve its reputation by sending its three car models to the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) for the very first time. These include the names of Baleno, Grand Vitara, and Brezza. Apart from these models, it is also believed that the Fronx could be sent for crash testing at a later date.

Maruti Cars Could Be Safer Now!

Previously, Maruti Suzuki Baleno had been crash tested by Latin NCAP but did not perform well as it earned 0 Star Safety Rating. Although the testing standards differ between Latin NCAP, Global NCAP, and Bharat NCAP, a low rating can impact how people view a car's safety.

The previous-generation Maruti Suzuki Brezza, tested by Global NCAP in 2018, received a good rating with 4 Stars for Adult Occupancy and 2 Stars for Child Occupancy, standing out as the only Maruti model to do so.

The Grand Vitara, a recent addition to the product lineup, has not undergone testing by the global crash testing organization.

That said, the brand is optimistic that its midsize SUV, along with the premium hatchback and compact SUV, will perform well in the upcoming Bharat NCAP crash tests, addressing concerns about safety and improving the overall perception of these vehicles.

What is Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP)?

Bharat NCAP was introduced by the Government of India in October 2023. This program ensures that the testing protocols for cars align with global crash test standards. Under BNCAP, cars are given a star rating ranging from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. The rating system evaluates the performance of vehicles in terms of safety for both adult and child occupants separately.

Recently, in December, the Tata Harrier and Safari duo became the first cars to undergo testing and receive ratings from BNCAP, marking a significant step towards ensuring safer vehicles on the roads of India. Let’s hope the best for Maruti Suzuki as well.
