It is no secret that Suzuki Motor Corporation is all set to introduce its first fully-electric model in the global as well as India. This model will be the production version of the eVX concept that debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo. Now, Suzuki and Toyota have officially announced that Suzuki will supply the battery electric vehicle to Toyota.
The new electric SUV will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant in India from the spring of 2025. For people not in the know, Toyota had showcased the Urban SUV concept that's basically the re-engineered version of the eVX concept.
This will be the first BEV under the Toyota Suzuki partnership. It will be launched worldwide, providing a BEV choice even in the SUV market. The new electric SUV has been designed exclusively as a BEV. The new electric SUV is claimed to offer ample cruising range and a comfortable cabin. The new electric SUV is also available with a 4WD system, offering exceptional drivability on rough roads and a more powerful driving performance.
The battery system and platform designed for this model were jointly developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor Corporation. The electric SUV is likely to be offered with two battery packs - 60kWh and 48kWh. The top-spec model will have dual-motor 4WD system with an expected range of around 500-550km on a single charge, while the lower-spec model will have a range of around 400-500km.
Dimensionally, the Urban SUV concept was 4300mm long, 1820mm wide and 1620mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2700mm. Compared to the eVX, the new Toyota Urban SUV concept is 20mm shorter in width and height.
The new electric SUV will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which will also underpin a wide range of future Suzuki and Toyota electric vehicles. Internally called 27PL, the new skateboard platform will be a low-cost version of Toyota's 40PL electric skateboard architecture. The new electric SUV will have a premium cabin with good comfort and convenience features.
