Suzuki has just released its first electric vehicle, the Suzuki e Vitara, which evolved from the earlier eVX concept that was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo and Japan Mobility Expo. Although this production spec e Vitara carries the same electric foundation as its original concept, many aspects of the design changed, making it more practical and market-ready for the world. Let's dive into those key differences and similarities between the Suzuki e Vitara and the eVX concept.
Compared to the eVX concept, the Suzuki e Vitara received few upgrades in terms of performance and design. Both have two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh is FWD with 142.03 bhp, and the 61 kWh offers options between FWD and AWD. The AWD setup brings in 180.98 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, which is significantly more powerful than the FWD variants. And speaking of the driving range of this eVX concept, it promised over 500 km, and an official figure for the e Vitara remains confirmed.
The overall design of both the production-spec e Vitara and the eVX concept look similar, but some major differences can be spotted in the details. The e Vitara comes with single-piece Y-shaped LED DRLs and projector headlights, which in the case of the eVX could appear to be three-piece DRLs. For example, the production model boasts a chrome Suzuki logo instead of the illuminated logo seen on the concept, which makes it look pretty refined and bespoke. The front bumper of the e Vitara has been reworked to make it look more aggressive with sharp creases; the silver skid plate of the eVX has been done away with here.
The side profile sports more conventional door handles on the e Vitara, dispensing with flush door handles on the concept car. Colorful aerodynamic 19-inch black and grey alloy wheels complete its off-road-ready posture. The e Vitara also sports more prominent wheel arches and a more practical approach that strengthens its rugged stance. However, the rear section takes after that of the concept car-eVX with slight repositioning of the Suzuki logo as well as introducing new e Vitara badging.
Inside, the e Vitara takes the design of the eVX concept and adds more production-ready changes to it. Both feature a dual-screen configuration and a hexagonal steering wheel. The e Vitara is differentiated with available tan, black-and-tan, or even all-black interiors, while the eVX features a white-and-black interior. Rectangular AC vents with silver trim and a new user-friendly interface to command the screens complete the upscale theme. Now, on the center console, is a gloss black finish; features are a button-operated gear lever and driving mode controls, apart from an electronic parking brake. Seat upholstery in the e Vitara is done using a dual-tone semi-leatherette material that satisfies style and comfort needs for both daily commutes and long trips.
The production-spec e Vitara will naturally carry the essential safety items, including multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and an electronic parking brake. Maruti Suzuki has emphasized its safety agenda. Although not fully detailed at this stage, the safety options that came with the eVX concept--with such niceties as six airbags and a 360-degree camera--will also be found in its variant.
The e Vitara is slated to arrive in India sometime in the second half of 2025. Its probable price could be placed at an estimated amount of Rs 22 lakh, thereby putting it directly up against Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV besides going head-to-head against Hyundai Creta EV. Here's an explanation of how that positions e Vitara within the range.
The Suzuki e Vitara puts the futuristic vision of the eVX into an even more practical, user-friendly model and does not lose the concept's design ethos. Its modern features, robust construction, and thoughtful interior indeed make Suzuki's electric future an attractive proposition with promising comfort, style, and eco-friendly credentials.
