The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire, slated to launch on 11th November, has received a five-star safety rating in the latest round of Global NCAP tests. It’s the first Maruti Suzuki model to achieve a full safety rating. The compact sedan scored five stars for adult occupant safety and four stars for child occupant safety. The tested model was equipped with standard six airbags, electronic stability control, three-point belts in all seating positions, and pedestrian protection features.
In the frontal impact, the new Maruti Dzire offered good protection for the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. While the driver’s chest protection was rated as marginal, the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection. The compact sedan provided good protection for the driver’s and passengers’ knees, and tibia protection was rated as adequate. Its footwell area and bodyshell were rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings.
The new Dzire offered good protection to the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis in the side impact crash test. The performance of the electronic stability control (ESC) was acceptable according to Global NCAP’s latest requirements. In fact, the seat belt reminders (SBR) in the front and rear seating positions meet these requirements. The child restraint system, including Dynamic, CRS Installation, and Vehicle assessment scores, achieved 22.20 points out of 24, 12 out of 12, and 5 out of 13 points, respectively.
The child seat for the 3-year-old, installed forward-facing using the Isofix anchorages and a top tether, prevented excessive forward movement during the front impact crash test, providing full protection to the head and chest. However, neck protection was limited. For the 18-month-old child seat, it prevented head exposure and provided full protection.
With this achievement, the new Maruti Dzire is set to make a strong impact in the market. The compact sedan boasts significantly improved styling, an upmarket interior, and a more fuel-efficient Z-Series petrol engine. The updated model lineup will be spread across four trims and is likely to see a marginal price hike.
