Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) plans to introduce more premium models and products with various powertrains, including hybrid and battery-electric vehicles. This is why the company is expanding its production capacity with a new manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. In 2025, Toyota will launch two all-new three-row SUVs – the next-generation Fortuner and a 7-seater SUV based on the Maruti Grand Vitara. Additionally, Toyota will introduce a new electric SUV based on the upcoming Maruti e Vitara. Here’s a brief overview of these upcoming Toyota SUVs:
The second major offering from Toyota in 2025 will be a 7-seater SUV based on the forthcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater. It’s expected to arrive toward the end of the year. The new Toyota 7-seater SUV will have a distinct design language compared to its donor model. Built on Suzuki’s Global C platform, it will use the Grand Vitara’s existing powertrains – a 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and a 1.5L strong hybrid. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be available.
Toyota will also introduce two rebadged Maruti Suzuki models next year, including an electric SUV based on the Maruti e Vitara, which is slated for an early 2025 launch. This mid-size EV will feature Toyota’s signature design language, while its interior layout and features will closely resemble those of its donor model. Its dimensions will include a length of 4275 mm, a width of 1800 mm, a height of 1635 mm, a wheelbase of 2700 mm, and a ground clearance of 180 mm.
Similar to the e Vitara, Toyota’s first electric SUV in India will be built on the all-new skateboard Heartect-e platform. It will be offered with two battery pack options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The dual-motor AWD setup will be exclusive to the larger battery variants.
The new-generation Toyota Fortuner will debut in India in 2025, followed by its market launch. However, its exact launch date and details are yet to be revealed. The 2025 Fortuner will be built on the TNGA-F platform, which also underpins the globally sold new Tacoma pickup truck. In April 2024, Toyota showcased the Fortuner MHEV (mild hybrid electric vehicle) powered by a 2.8L diesel engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system, delivering a combined output of 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. It will offer both 2WD and 4WD setups with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Toyota claims the Fortuner MHEV delivers better throttle response and a smoother engine restart, courtesy of its new idle start-stop feature. However, it’s unclear whether the 2025 Toyota Fortuner in India will feature the mild hybrid powertrain. The SUV will also offer a 360-degree camera and the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite. Major updates will be made to its exterior and interior design.
