The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market is undergoing a transformation as more products are being introduced across different price segments. Talking about the affordable compact SUV segment, four new electric models ready to hit roads – Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Syros EV, Hyundai Inster EV and Hyundai Venue EV. Let’s delve into the key details and expected launch timelines of these four upcoming electric compact SUVs.
The electric version of the Mahindra XUV 3XO subcompact SUV is likely to arrive in coming months. The EV is currently in its testing phase and has been caught on camera multiple times. The spy images reveal that the XUV 3XO EV will feature a differently designed grille featuring a larger central air intake along with the signature badging.
The aero-optimized alloy wheels will further distinguish it from its ICE version. The interior will be similar to the regular model. Though, a few EV-specific elements are expected. The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV might be offered with a 35kWh battery pack.
Kia Syros EV in under development and expected to launch in early 2026. Once launched, it will compete with the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. As of now, there is no word on its powertrain and performance figures.
Though, it has been revealed that the Syros EV will come with the FWD (front-wheel drive) system. This compact electric SUV is likely to be designed on the K1 platform and retain the original design. However, it could be distinguished with a differently designed grille, bumpers and alloy wheels.
Hyundai Motor India is planning to introduce a new compact electric SUV to challenge dominance of the Tata Punch EV. This new model will be based on the global-spec Hyundai Inster EV, and is expected to launch in the second half of 2026.
The Inster EV is available with two battery pack options – 97bhp, Standard 42kWh and 115bhp, Long-Range 49kWh – delivering a claimed range of 300km and 355km, respectively. The new Hyundai compact EV might share its powertrain with the Inster. It could be packed with features such as ADAS suite, 360 degree camera with blind spot monitor, 10.25-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, etc.
The South Korean automaker has confirmed three mass-market EVs for the Indian market. While the company hasn’t yet revealed their names and details, the products are likely to be the Inster EV, Venue EV and Grand i10 Nios EV. The Hyundai Venue EV will be a direct rival of the Tata Nexon EV, and expected to hit showrooms in the next couple of years.
