After months of waiting and speculation, Maruti Suzuki has just launched the new Brezza CNG in India. First showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the compact SUV becomes the 13th model in the brand’s lineup to be offered with a CNG powertrain. Also, unlike other Maruti CNG models, the Brezza CNG is available in all the trim levels as its ICE-powered sibling.
On the outside, the Brezza CNG looks largely similar to its petrol counterpart except for the new S-CNG badge. It continues to feature the redesigned front end along with sleek headlights, LED DRLs, and a slim front grille. In the side profile, the car gets dual-tone alloy wheels while the rear end gets new LED taillights and a bootlid spoiler.
Inside, the Brezza CNG comes packed with upto a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, semi digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, electric sunroof, push-button start/stop, ambient lighting, and more. Maruti has also added new CNG-specific features such as an Integrated petrol and CNG fuel lid, dedicated CNG drive mode, digital and analogue CNG fuel gauges, and an illuminated fuel change over switch.
The Brezza CNG will be powered by a 1.5-litre Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol-CNG motor that also does duty on the Ertiga and XL6. In petrol mode, the motor makes 100 bhp with 138 Nm of peak torque, while the figures drop to 88 bhp with 122 Nm of max torque in the CNG mode. The system is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox option only and returns a claimed economy of 25.51 km/kg.
Prices for the Brezza CNG start from Rs 9.14 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level LXI S-CNG trim, going up to Rs 12.05 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top ZXI S-CNG Dual-Tone model.
As the first compact SUV to be offered with a CNG powertrain in India, the Brezza CNG has no direct rivals currently. The standard Brezza competes against the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, and the Kia Sonet.
