Volkswagen has finally announced that they will be launching the Golf GTI in India. The launch is said to take place in mid-2025, and the pre-booking has started at select dealerships. With the government's homologation-free import route, there will be import of up to 2,500 units annually. The hatchback is set to arrive as completely Built-Up (CBU) units straight from Germany.
Let's look deeper at what this hatchback has locked on for its Indian fans.
This latest Golf GTI is truly a head-turner with an aggressive and sporty design. It features 18-inch ‘Richmond’ diamond-cut alloy wheels (with optional 19-inch wheels), distinctive GTI badges, and eye-catching red accents on the bonnet and brake calipers. Also, a dual-tone full roof spoiler completes the look of this iconic hatch, making it stand out with an unmistakable sporty presence.
The cabin design of the Golf GTI resembles the regular Golf but with some premium elements of sporty touch specific to the GTI. The car features tartan seat upholstery, a GTI-specific digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen that comes with a voice assistant, and a push start button that blinks red as you start the engine.
As for the engine, this hatch is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that delivers 242 BHP and 370 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic which sends power to the front wheels.
Globally, the GTI is offered with optional adaptive suspension and progressive steering for a balanced and engaging ride. We can only hope that could be available with India-spec vehicles.
The brand has yet to make any announcement on the price, so we can expect it to be priced at Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom) as a completely built unit (CBU). With its launch in India around June of 2025, the car will rival the Mini Cooper S and the Skoda Octavia RS.
