Tata Nexon is a uniquely designed compact SUV, which was first introduced in 2017. The SUV has a coupe-styled profile, feature-loaded cabin and good build quality. Tata Motors had introduced the significantly revised MODEL compact SUV in September 2017. The facelifted model comes with bolder design with sharper styling elements, and a feature-loaded cabin with several segment-leading features.
It retains the existing 1.2L turbocharged petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine. The company has also added a new dual-clutch transmission in its line-up. The Tata Nexon facelift has also received an impressive 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). This compact SUV is a good value-for-money option, as it offers multiple engine options, safety, excellent ride quality, premium interior and premium looks.
The new Tata Nexon compact SUV comes with a wide range of comfort and convenience features. It gets a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Other high-end features include a wireless phone charging, an air purifier, a rear defogger, ventilated front seats, 60:40 split fold rear seats, LED taillamps with a welcome & goodbye function, and sequential LED DRLs with a welcome function.
The Nexon compact SUV is a sub-4 meter SUV, measuring 3995mm in length, 1804mm in width and 1620mm in height. It is 2mm longer and 14mm taller than the previous model; however, the width has been reduced by 7mm. The SUV rides on a wheelbase of 2,498mm, while the ground clearance stands at 208mm. The SUV offers a boot space of 382-litres, which is more than sufficient to carry 2-3 suitcases along with small bags.
Compared to the previous model, the new Tata Nexon facelift comes with a significantly revised styling. The front fascia of the new SUV is inspired from the Curvv SUV Coupe concept. It features a new slimmer front grille, split LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and LED fog lamps mounted on the new bumper. The LED DRLs also work as swiping turn indicators.
It comes with flared wheel arches with bold body cladding, new 16-inch diamond cut alloys, and sloping roofline. At the back, the SUV gets Y-shaped LED tail-lights with a connecting lightbar that runs across the tailgate. It features vertically positioned reverse light and reflector housings, and a new bumper.
The majority of the changes are made to the interior. It is now more premium and feature-loaded than the previous car. The dashboard is dominated by a large freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console. Instead of manual buttons, there is a touch panel placed below the infotainment for the AC function and other functions. It comes with a twin-spoke steering with an illuminated Tata logo, new gear lever, ventilated seats and height adjustable front seats along with purple upholstery.
Tata Nexon was the first made-in-India car to secure full 5-star crash test rating in Global NCAP. This trend continues with the facelifted model, which also scored full 5-star with better points. It comes with a comprehensive suite of standard safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESP), hill hold assist (HHA), reverse parking sensors, electronic traction control, and a day/night IRVM. The higher variants are fitted with a 360-degree surround view camera, front parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a blind-spot monitor.
The sub-4 meter SUV comes with over 59 variants, and 3 engine options. The Tata Nexon is available at a starting price of Rs 799990, which goes up to Rs 1549990 for the top-end variant.
The Tata Nexon SUV is offered with two engine options including a 1.2L turbocharged petrol and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel. The petrol engine is capable of producing 118.2 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the turbo diesel unit produces 113.3 bhp and 260 Nm of torque.
Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, an AMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The new Nexon is available with 3 driving modes - Sport, City and Eco. The Sport mode offers sporty performance, while the Eco mode delivers maximum mileage.
The new Tata Nexon petrol manual version is claimed to deliver an ARAI certified fuel economy of 17.44 kmpl, while the AMT version delivers 17.18 kmpl. The petrol version with dual-clutch transmission returns a mileage of 17.01 kmpl. The Nexon diesel is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 23.23kmpl with manual gearbox and 24.08kmpl with AMT gearbox.
The new Tata Nexon sub-4 meter SUV directly rivals the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Brezza and others in the category.
