The new gen version of the well-known MPV, the BYD eMax 7, has hit the Indian market recently. Its ex-showroom, pan-India launch price is set at Rs. 26.90 lakh. It is available in Premium and Superior, in 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. Key highlights of this new launch are BYD's latest electric powertrain, an expansive interior with cutting-edge tech, and anticipated competition from peers in a contested driving range.

The eMax 7 is available in 2 variants - Premium and Superior. The BYD eMax 7 price in India starts at Rs 26.90 lakh and goes up to Rs 29.90 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. 

Most Value for Money Variant

The Premium variant offers the most value for money. It offers features such as a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and so on, but it is also pretty competitively priced.

The electric MPV comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, two wireless chargers, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree surround view camera and an electrically operable tailgate. The electric MPV comes in 6 and 7-seat options with former having captain seats in the second-row. It comes with LED lighting system.

BYD eMax 7 Range

The eMax 7 is available with two separate batteries for deployment:
55.4 kWh battery: This battery provides a claimed range of 420 km.
71.8 kWh battery: This battery provides up to a mileage of 530 km on a single charge.

Safety Features

The BYD eMax 7 is well equipped with several safety and security features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), 360 degree surround view camera, ABS with EBD and others. It also gets Level 2 ADAS tech with features like Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring and others. Not tested in Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP, but the class-best safety suite is promised. 

Colors Options 

The BYD eMax 7 is available in 4 colour options such as Quartz Blue, Cosmos Blue, Crystal White and Harbour Grey. 

Engine and Transmission

The eMax 7 is equipped with the following:

- A 160.77bhp electric motor with a 55.4kWh battery and a 201.20bhp motor with a larger 71.8kWh battery.
- Front-wheel drive.
- Single-speed automatic transmission.

The eMax 7 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 8.6 seconds for the more powerful variant, placing it in an electric MPV that is on steroids.

Boot Space and Dimensions

In terms of proportions, the new BYD eMax 7 is 4710mm in length, 1810mm in width and 1690mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2800mm. The longer wheelbase ensures spacious cabin to accommodate 7 adults comfortably. 

Boot Space - It offers 580 liters of boot space, and this space can go up further if the third-row seats are folded.

Competition Check

Though not a direct electric competitor of the eMax 7 in India, it still is an eco-friendly alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross and Toyota Innova Crysta. The two Toyotas are pop-up MPVs, unfortunately, they do not have an all-electric version, so the BYD eMax 7 is the sole option that is available in the class.

Cons

It is much too expensive. The range goes from Rs. 26.90 to Rs. 29.90 lakhs.
