Latest Update - MG Motor India has launched the Windsor EV PRO with a bigger battery pack, more safety tech and powered tailgate. Positioned as a top-end model, the new Windsor PRO is launched at a price tag of Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is packed with a bigger 52.9kWh battery pack, which claims to offer a range of up to 449km in a single charge.
The Windsor EV is offered in 4 variants - Excite, Exclusive, Essence and Essence PRO - and in two battery options. The MG Windsor EV price in India starts at 1399800 and goes up to Rs 1809800 (ex-showroom).
Customers can also opt for MG's battery rental program, called the BaaS program. The Windsor EV without battery is available in the price bracket of Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). In the battery rental scheme, customer will have to pay Rs 3.5 per km for the battery subscription. The Windsor PRO without battery costs Rs 12.50 lakh along with a battery rental cost of Rs 4.5 per km. For example, if a customer drives the MUV around 50,000km a year, the customer will have to pay less than 2 lakh additional costs to the company over the showroom price.
The base variant, the MG Windsor EV Excite comes with features like standard 6 airbags, aero-lounge seats with 135 degree recline, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and Electronic Stability Program and Electric Parking Brake.
The mid-variant of the MG Windsor EV gets a 15.6-inch Grandview Touch Display, 80+ i-Smart Connected Features, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, a 360-degree surround view camera and smart flush door handles.
The top-spec variant has all the features that are accessible in the lower variants. Additionally, it gets Infinity View Glass Roof, 9-speakers Audio System by Infinity, 256 Colour Ambient lights, ventilated front row seats and PM2.5 filter. With PRO variant, MG has also added the LEVEL 2 ADAS tech and powered tailgate.
The MG Windsor EV is available with two battery pack option - a 38kWh and a 52.9kWh. Both coupled to a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor. The combined power and torque output stands at 136hp and 200Nm, respectively.
Range - The Windsor EV is claimed to offer an electric range of up to 331km on a single charge, which is significantly lower compared to its competition Tata Nexon EV. In the real world, the CUV returns a range of around 250km to 280km on a single charge. However, the Windsor EV PRO is claimed to offer a range of up to 449km in a single charge. It should give a real-world range of around 350-380km.
Charging Time - Using a 7.4kW AC charger, the Windsor's 38kWh battery can achieve 0-100% charging status in 6.5 hours. One can achieve 0-80% charging status in 55 minutes using a 50kW DC charger. The electric MPV can support maximum fast charging capability of up to 45kW.
Using a 7.4kWh AC charger, the Windsor EV PRO battery can be fully charged in 9.5 hours. It also supports 60kW DC fast charging which charges the battery from 20 to 80 percent in 50 minutes.
MG Windsor EV has an AeroGlide design language with the best-in-class wheelbase of 2700 mm. Its front fascia highlights LED lamps and Daylight Running Lights (DRLs), illuminated front MG logo, and LED headlamps. The EV gets the first-in-segment 18-inch diamond alloy wheels and glass antenna. Apart from this, Windsor gets stylish flush door handles and connected LED tail lamps.
The MG Windsor EV comes with a uniquely styled and feature-loaded interior. It comes with a dual-tone interior scheme with Gold treatment and wooden finish on some body panels including doors and dashboard. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8.8-inch digital driver display and a twin-spoke steering wheel. The AC vents are placed right below the touch display. There are limited buttons on the dashboard, as most of the functions can be controlled by the infotainment unit.
It comes with Aero-lounge seats with 135-degree recline function, an infinity glass roof, and electrically adjustable driver's seat along with ventilated function. It also gets a 9-speaker audio system by Infinity, wireless smartphone charger, 256 colour ambient lighting and others. The Windsor EV PRO also gets powered tailgate, new beige interior scheme and LEVEL 2 ADAS tech.
The MG Windsor EV measures 4,295mm in length, 2,126mm in width and 1,677mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,700mm, which allows the company to create more space inside the cabin and a bigger boot. The new electric CUV has a ground clearance of up to 186mm.
The Windsor CUV is claimed to offer a boot space of 604-litres, which is more than the Tata Curvv EV. Lower-spec variant rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 215/60 section tyres, while the top-end variant gets 18-inch diamond cut alloys shod in 215/55 section tyres.
The new Windsor EV is packed with a 15.6-inch 'GrandView' touchscreen infotainment unit, which is compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In fact, the base variant has a 10.1-inch touch display with smartphone connectivity and Bluetooth Music & Calling. For music lovers, the MODEL gets a 9 speakers Audio system by Infinity. The lower variant gets a 6 speakers audio system.
The MG Windsor EV comes with MG iSmart connected car features such as advanced UI with widget customisation of homescreen, voice commands to control car functions, 30+ Hinglish Voice commands, valet mode quiet mode, Find My Car and others.
The new Windsor EV comes equipped with 6 airbags including dual front, side and curtain airbags as standard. It gets a 3-point seat belt, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill-Start Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, and Rear Parking Sensors as standard. The MG Windsor EV sports LED rear fog lamps, LED cornering lights, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, all 4 disc brakes, auto hold, electric parking brake, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps and others.
The top-spec Windsor EV PRO gets LEVEL 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, auto high beam, lane assist and others.
MG Motor India is offering Lifetime warranty on Windsor EV battery. Other than the battery warranty, the company is giving 3 years unlimited warranty on vehicle, 3 years roadside assistance and 3 services (labour free services).
Customers can also opt for MG' e-shield program or Personalised programs. One can opt for extended warranty plans of up to 5 years with unlimited kilometres, extended RSA plan up to 5 years along with 3-60 BuyBack Plan (assured buyback of 60% (ex-showroom) after 3 years/45,000km.
MG Windsor EV directly rivals the country's top-selling electric SUV, the Tata Nexon. It also comes as an alternative to the likes of the Tata Punch EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
