Mahindra introduced the Thar Roxx lifestyle SUV on the occasion of India's Independence Day, 2024. It comes as a more practical family oriented lifestyle SUV. The Mahindra Thar 5-door has been receiving an unprecedented response from car buyers across the country. It is equally popular among enthusiasts and family car buyers. 

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine. It comes with manual and automatic gearbox options. The lifestyle SUV is available with 5-seat options with bench-type seats in the second-row.

The Thar Roxx is available in 6 trims - MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L - and in total of 18 variants. The Thar Roxx price in India starts at Rs 12.99 lakh, which goes up to Rs 22.49 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Pan India.

Most Value For Money Variant

We suggest you opt for the Thar Roxx AX3 L diesel manual variant. This variant gets all the required features and offers better mileage compared to the petrol derivative.

The lifestyle SUV comes with a range of comfort and convenience features. It gets automatic climate control, a 6-way powered driver-seat, and leatherette seats, and ventilated front seats.

It features a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and connected car tech. The SUV gets a 10.25-inch digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, and 360 surround view camera. It sports Level 2 ADAS tech, a wireless phone charging, LED lighting system and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Engine Specifications

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with two engine options - a 2.0-litre, turbo petrol direct injection and a 2.2-litre, mHawk turbo diesel. While the gasoline version is only available as a RWD model, the turbo diesel is offered with both RWD and 4x4 drive options.

The 2.0L turbo petrol engine offers two states of tunes - 160hp/330Nm and 174hp/380Nm. Manual and Automatic duties are handled by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. On the flip-side, the oil burner produces two states of tunes - 150hp/330Nm and 172Nm/370Nm. It is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

Based on the modified 3rd generation body-on-frame chassis, the new Thar Roxx shares the suspension setup with the Scorpio-N. It comes with independent front suspension and Watt's Linkage at the rear; both come with Frequency dependent damping (FDD).

Mahindra Thar Roxx Mileage

Mahindra has not released the mileage figures of the Thar Roxx lifestyle SUV. The diesel version should offer a mileage of around 12-13kmpl in real world conditions. On the other hand, the petrol mileage is likely to be around 8-9kmpl in real world conditions.

Exterior Design Highlights

The 5-door lifestyle SUV is built on a modified 3rd generation platform that debuted in the Scorpio N. It comes with a new front grille design that has six, double-stacked slots, flanked by circular headlamps. The headlamp unit now has an LED projector setup with C-shaped daytime running lamps. There are round-shaped LED fog lamps positioned on either side of the lower bumper.

The front bumper has faux brushed aluminium bits at the center and fog lamp housings on either side. It comes with chunky wheel arches, black door handles for the front doors, and body-coloured door handles for the rear doors. The top variant rides on stylish 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, while mid variants get 18-inch alloys.

The rear door comes with a vertically positioned handle, while the quarter glass has a triangular shape. It has a dual-tone paint scheme with a contrasting black roof. The rear looks similar to the 3-door model, except for the new tail-lamps with C-shaped LEDs and a revised tailgate with rear wiper and washer.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Interior

The SUV shares the dashboard layout with the 3-door, but Mahindra designers have made certain changes to add premium touch and more premium features. It comes with soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door pads. The SUV has a dual-tone interior scheme with beige-finished leatherette seats. The dashboard is dominated by dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation duties.

The circular air con vents are placed on either sides as well as below the touchscreen infotainment unit. It comes with automatic climate control, 6-way powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, a sliding front armrest, all 4 power windows, a cooled glovebox and a wireless phone charging. Top variant also gets a panoramic sunroof, while the lower-spec models get a single pane sunroof.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The Mahindra Thar Roxx sits on a 2,850mm long wheelbase, which is 400mm longer than the 3-door model. The longer wheelbase ensures a spacious cabin and a big boot space. It measures 4,428mm in length, 1,870mm in width and 1,923mm in height.

Compared to the 3-door model, the Thar Roxx is 443mm longer, 50mm wider and 68mm taller. The SUV has a fuel tank of 57-litres capacity, which is again 12-litres higher than the 3-door sibling. The new SUV has a water wading capacity of 650mm.

It has an approach angle of 41.7 degree, ramp over angle of 23.9 degree and 36.1 degree. The SUV rides on 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels; however, the lower-spec models are offered with 18-inch steel and alloy wheels.

Infotainment and Connectivity (Music System)

The Thar Roxx lifestyle SUV comes equipped with a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. It also comes with Adrenox connected car tech with Alexa built-in, and 83 connected applications. For music lovers, the SUV gets a Harman Kardon music system with 6 speakers, 2 tweeters and subwoofers.

How safe is Mahindra Thar Roxx?

The 5-door lifestyle SUV is available with 6 airbags including driver & passenger, and side and curtain. It comes with tyre pressure monitoring system, front & rear parking sensors, 360 surround view camera, 3 point seat belt for all seats, auto dimming IRVM and all-4 disc brakes. 

Other safety features including electronic stability control (ESC), ABS with EBD, engine drag torque control, vehicle dynamics control (VDC), hill hold control (HHC), hill descent control (HDC), hydraulic brake assist (HBA), traction control system (TCS), roll over mitigation (ROM), brake locking differential (BLD) and brake disc wiping.

The SUV also comes with Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) features. The ADAS features include autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, smart pilot assist, high beam assist and traffic sign recognition.
