Latest Update - Maruti Suzuki has started testing the Fronx facelift, which is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2025. The compact crossover receives big changes under the bonnet. It will come with an in-house developed strong hybrid engine.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is an urban crossover SUV that is based on the Baleno hatchback in India. Positioned below the Brezza, the Fronx is a perfectly made sub-4 meter SUV that is meant to fulfill the needs of an SUV (cabin space and design) in the budget of a premium hatchback. It is built on Suzuki's HEARTECT platform that also underpins the Baleno and the Swift.
The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx is available in 3 trim levels - Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha - and in total of 14 variants. The first generation of the Maruti Fronx price in India starts at Rs 752000 and extends up to Rs 1288000 (ex-showroom).
Interior - The Maruti Suzuki Fronx shares its cabin layout and features with Baleno and Grand Vitara. It gets red and black dual-tone interior scheme with matte/silver accents, giving it a premium touch. There is ample space for driver and passengers inside and cabin and it can easily accommodate up to five people onboard.
Features - It is packed with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other key features of the Fronx includes 360-degree surround view camera, automatic climate control, Heads-Up Display (HUD), wireless charger and others.
Design - The Fronx has got quite a distinctive look as it resembles more to the Grand Vitara with its SUV-like face fitted with slim DRLs. The front end of the car is completed by the new headlamp unit, Maruti's traditional grille and a thick chrome strip.
Bigger wheel arches and side cladding across the vehicle enhances its looks and adds a pinch of ruggedness to four-wheels overall appeal. Moreover, the sloping rear-end-inspired coupe design and connected LED tail lamps make it look fantabulous.
Compared to its hatchback counterpart, the Fronx crossover is 5 mm longer, 20mm wider and 50mm higher, with the same wheelbase.
For safety and security, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx gets up to 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Assist (HHA), reverse parking camera with sensors and more as standard.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is powered by the familiar 1.2-litre K-Series, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Baleno. This engine is capable of producing 89bhp of power and a peak torque of 113Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
There is another 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, called the Boosterjet, on offer for the enthusiast. This engine was earlier offered on the Baleno RS. This engine makes 99bhp and 147Nm of torque and comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or the new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option.
The Fronx is also offered with a CNG fuel option, which comes with a 1.2L NA petrol engine and a factory-fitted CNG kit. In the CNG mode, the powertrain offers 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm of torque. This engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Maruti Fronx petrol AMT is claimed to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 22.89kmpl, while the Fronx manual delivers 21.79kmpl. The Fronx 1.0 manual and automatic claim to offer a certified fuel economy of 21.5kmpl and 20.01kmpl, respectively. The Fronx CNG delivers 28.51 km/kg.
Fronx real mileage - in the real world conditions, the new Fronx crossover returns an average mileage of around 18kmpl. It delivers around 14-15kmpl in city traffic while the efficiency rises to 21kmpl on highways. The Fronx Turbo, on the other hand delivers less mileage and one can achieve a maximum efficiency of up to 18kmpl on highways and 12kmpl in City.
The Fronx measures 3995mm in length, 1765mm in width and 1550mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2520mm. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has a ground clearance of 190mm, which is good enough to handle Indian roads, including bumps and uneven surfaces.
-Is Fronx bigger than Baleno?
Both Fronx and Baleno sits under 4 meters in length. However, the Fronx is 20mm wider and 50mm taller than the hatchback, ensuring more space.
- Is Fronx ground clearance good?
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx ground clearance is 20mm higher (190mm) than the Baleno, which has a ground clearance of 170mm. The crossover offers better driving experience over rugged surfaces than the Baleno.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has a boot space of 308-litres, which is more than sufficient to carry your weekend bags. The boot space is around 10-litres less compared to the Baleno.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is available in 10 different exterior colours. The colour options include Earthen Brown, Arctic White, Bluish Black, Nexa Blue, Splendid Silver Opulent Red, Opulent Red With Black Roof, Grandeur Grey, Earthen Brown with Bluish Black Roof and Splendid Silver with Bluish Black Roof.
Considering the price point, it rivals the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
