Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor

Toyota had launched the Taisor compact SUV in the Indian market on April 3, 2024. The Taisor is essentially a re-badged version of the popular Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Maruti produces the Taisor at its own manufacturing facility and supplies it to Toyota for the retail market. It comes as a successor of the Urban Cruiser SUV, which was based on the older Vitara Brezza.

The Toyota Taisor is available with two engine options - a 1.2L NA petrol and a 1.0L turbo petrol. It comes with manual and automatic gearbox options. The SUV appears largely identical to the Fronx crossover, except for the few design changes.

The Toyota Taisor  is available in 4 trims - E, S, G and V - and in total of 10 variants. The Taisor price in India starts at Rs 774000 and goes up to Rs 1288000. All the prices are ex-showroom, Pan India.

Most value for money variant

We recommend you go for the S Plus variant of the Toyota Taisor. This variant gets a 1.2L NA petrol engine with 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. If you are looking at a more powerful 1.0L turbo engine, we suggest the G variant of the SUV. It comes with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. 

The Taisor S variant gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Other features include steering-mounted controls, power mirrors, LED reflector headlamps, auto headlamps and dual-function LED DRLs. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. 

The Taisor G variant gets 6 airbags, rear wiper & washer, rear camera, and height-adjustable driver seat. It also gets keyless entry with push-button start/stop and wireless phone charger, paddle shifters and colour MID.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor comes with LED headlamps with twin DRLs, connected LED combi lamps at the rear and shark fin antenna.

The Taisor gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It comes with a cruise control, a 360-degree surround view camera, a wireless phone charger, and steering mounted controls.

Engine Specifications

The Taisor is available with two engines - a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.2L Dual-Jet, Dual VVT engine is capable of producing 88.5bhp and a peak torque of 113Nm.

In the CNG mode, the engine produces 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the NA engine comes with a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic unit. The CNG version is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces 98.69 bhp of maximum power and 147.6 Nm of peak torque. The engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

Toyota Taisor Mileage

The Taisor 1.2L manual claims to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.7kmpl. The AMT version delivers 22.8kmpl. On the other hand, the CNG version returns a certified mileage of 28.5 km/kg.

The turbo version delivers an ARAI rated fuel economy of 21.5kmpl. The fuel economy drops to 20kmpl with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor measures 3995mm in length, 1765mm in width and 155mm in height. The crossover rides on 2520mm long wheelbase, while the ground clearance stands at 190mm. It comes with a boot space of 308-litres, which is expandable.

The new Toyota Taisor comes equipped with a wide range of safety and security features. It comes with 6 airbags, hill hold assist, and vehicle stability control. The SUV gets rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, speed alerts, ISOFIX child seat mounts, etc. The SUV also comes with a 360-degree surround view camera.

Competition

The Toyota Taisor compact SUV directly rivals the Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite. This crossover can also impact the sales of Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon.
