Maruti Suzuki Swift is forever a star car in Indian hatchback markets. Its fresh updates add to its sporty appeal and make safety, comfort, and technology features great strides ahead. Maruti Suzuki has lately launched a fresh variant lineup that includes a limited-run Blitz Edition sitting parallel to the popular petrol and CNG variants. With loads of advanced features on offer, the Swift is very appealing to a wide range of buyers in terms of modern styling and efficient powertrains.
The Swift hatchback is available in 12 variants. The Maruti Suzuki Swift price in India starts at Rs 649000, which goes up to Rs 944501 for the top-end variant (ex-showroom).
Value-for-money variant is the ZXi. Its price starts at Rs. 8.29 lakh, ex-showroom. Some of its features will include LED headlamps, alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, AC with automatic controls, six airbags, and electronic stability control, among other safety features.
The new Maruti Swift comes with several tech features, which were missing in the previous model. It has a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. This system is also available in other Maruti Suzuki cars like Fronx, Baleno and the Grand Vitara. With the new Swift, MSIL has added an LED lighting system, 6 airbags, wireless phone charging, automatic air conditioning, cruise control and many more.
It is based on the heavily modified HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Baleno and Fronx. The new Swift retains the overall silhouette, as it features a more evolved styling. It comes with several new design elements to keep things fresh in the market. The hatchback has a sharper front fascia that now has a smaller grille and newly styled LED Headlamps. The rear handles are placed in a conventional position. The previous model has C-pillar mounted door handles. It comes with an LED lighting system, featuring LED DRLs, LED headlamps, LED fog lights and LED tail-lights. The tall-boy hatchback gets blacked-out wing mirrors and 15-inch dual-tone machined-cut alloy wheels.
The new hatchback comes with all-black interior scheme with contrasting silver treatment across the dashboard and steering wheel. It features a twin-pod analogue instrument console with a coloured 4.2-inch TFT MID (Multi-Information Display), and a leather-wrapped flat bottom steering wheel. There is a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, which is claimed to offer better user interface and connectivity than the 7-inch unit. Other features include cruise control, automatic AC, A- C-type charging slots, a multi-functional steering wheel and powered ORVMs.
Quite impressive is the mileage of the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The engine gives a certified fuel economy as high as 25.75 kmpl in the form of the automatic transmission and as high as 24.80 kmpl in the form of the manual gearbox. The CNG variant is very much more efficient for offering mileage up to 32.85 km/kg.
Safety is the topmost priority for Swift; hence, it is equipped with a comprehensive list of safety equipment. The mid-line safety kit includes 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program (ESP), a hill hold assist, a rear parking camera, and ISOFIX anchorage points for child seats. It assures safety both to the driver as well as to a passenger.
The new Swift by Maruti Suzuki comes in a very massive color palette. Six monotone colors are in store-Sizzling Red, Luster Blue, Novel Orange, Magma Grey, Splendid Silver, and Pearl Arctic White. Apart from these, there are three dual-tone options that come with a Midnight Black roof paired with some body colors.
The Swift hatchback is powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which debuted in the global-spec model earlier this year. This Z-series powertrain churns out 80.46bhp of power and 111Nm of peak torque. This is 8hp and 1Nm less compared to the previous K-Series engine. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
The CNG variant puts out 68.05 bhp and 102 Nm of torque and comes only with a 5-speed manual transmission.
It's long 3,860 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with the wheelbase stretching to 2,450 mm. Boot space is something over 265 litres. And the rear seats collapse for quite some more luggage.
Established players like Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago are going to pose stern challenges before this Suzuki. Though Swift has a reputation for reliability and resale value, competition is as sharp on features and performance, making it a very competitive segment.
