The Mini Cooper S is essentially the high-performance variant of the classic Cooper and is currently in its fourth generation in the country. Its all-new model, introduced in July 2024, comes with significant cosmetic changes and feature upgrades, while retaining the 204bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol engine. The Cooper S has always been favored for its compact dimensions, chic styling, and handling. Compared to the Mini Cooper, the Cooper S offers more features and tech with advanced engineering and improved performance. It’s purely a fun-to-drive car.
The three-door performance hatchback comes in a single Standard variant, currently available at Rs 44.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
This compact hot hatch comes with several advanced tech features onboard. Following a minimalist approach, the carmaker has removed the instrument cluster with the latest update. The center console now has a single band of toggle controls instead of physical controls. One of the major highlights of the Mini Cooper S is a new 9.4-inch round OLED touchscreen running on Mini’s latest Android-based operating system, developed by Samsung. The unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay.
Other features include a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi sound system, ambient lighting, HUD, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic glass roof, connected car tech, a massage function for the driver’s seat, and more. The hot hatch offers multiple upholstery options, including leather cross punch carbon black, leather lounge satellite grey, leather chester malt brown, Mini Yours leather lounge carbon black, and JCW sport seats.
The Mini Cooper S is a compact yet spacious hatchback. Its overall length, width, and height stand at 3876mm, 1744mm, and 1432mm, respectively. It sits on a 2495mm wheelbase. The hot hatch has a boot space of 210 liters and a seating capacity for five occupants.
The Cooper S has a robust safety setup with standard features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, hill start assist, and traction control. The hot hatch also offers an ADAS suite, including lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and more.
With the latest update, the Cooper S has switched to a heavily updated version of its previous platform. For power, it uses the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The setup delivers a maximum power of 204bhp and 300Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels. The hot hatch misses out on paddle shifters for manual control. It’s claimed to go from 0 to 100kmph in 6.6 seconds.
The Mini Cooper S offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.33kmpl and has a carbon emission of 137g/km.
This performance hatchback is available in multiple exterior colors: Moonwalk Grey, Lapisluxury Blue, White Silver, Thunder Grey, Starlight Blue, Solaris Orange, Pepper White, Midnight Black, Melting Silver, Emerald Grey, Electric Blue, Chilli Red, and British Racing Green. It has four interior themes: Carbon Black, Satellite Grey, Malt Brown, and Glowing Red, with three surface options: Black Checkered, Piano Black, and Dark Silver.
This 2-door premium hatchback doesn’t have any direct rivals in India.
