 How Reliable Are Hyundai Cars?

How Reliable Are Hyundai Cars?

Hyundai has been around for nearly three decades in India and has amassed a reputation for being synonymous with reliability. Products like the Santro and Accent in the initial years helped the manufacturer strike a chord with the buyers especially in the budget space, the toughest segment to crack.  It has been an arch-rival of Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car manufacturer, and when it comes to sales, Hyundai clocked its highest-ever sales in FY24 with over 7.7 lakh units sold. These numbers are a testament to how much Indians love the brand and favour their cars.  Measuring Reliability Of course, there are other factors like affordability and accessibility of spare parts, we at CarLelo believe that reliability can be one thing on paper but for a real picture, it is the buyers who should always turn to. Notably, most sales for Hyundai come from hatchbacks and SUVs ranging in the Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 21 lakh bracket. Hyundai car buyers have often reported high mileage numbers coupled with decent performance. Cars like the Grand i10 NIOS promise a fuel efficiency of 16 kilometres per litre.  Then comes the average repair cost of their cars. As the second-largest car brand in India, Hyundai has aggressively priced their spare parts due to high competition from Maruti Suzuki. Yes, some may find the parts priced at a premium, however, you need to understand that OEMs put a lot of research and development behind them. Next up is safety and Hyundai has been in the news for its strong build quality. Verna scored 5 stars in the GNCAP. Six airbags have been made standard in all cars from the brand, even the Grand i10 hatchback. This shows how committed Hyundai is in terms of safety. Finally, the ownership cost of a Hyundai car is affordable and comes with a lot of premiumness. This is something that sets the Korean brand apart from its competitors as Hyundai has time and again shown how good quality can be achieved at smart prices. Santro The Santro marked Hyundai’s debut in India and has been a runaway success. Back in the day when it was in production, it had the Maruti 800 and Alto as competitors. On the inside the five-seater hatchback was spacious and felt like a class above. It was a bold move to target the budget segment with the Hyundai Santro but it went on to impress with its fuel-efficient engine that could take on any road. You may still find some plying on the roads to this day and is still popular in the after-sales market.  Grand i10 What started with the i10 culminated in the Hyundai Grand i10 about a decade back. Maruti’s segment-leading Swift saw some serious competition after the Getz which dented its sales a lot. The current Grand i10 NIOS continues to be equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and has been a workhorse. Though it was positioned one step up from the budget hatchback segment, the Grand i10 felt rich and had everything right going for itself from the exterior styling to the technology-packed interior. To this day, the car retains the Kappa petrol engine that it was launched with, implying the potency of the motor. i20 Next up, the Hyundai i20 is another extremely successful product from the house of Hyundai and rivals against the likes of Tata Altroz and Suzuki Baleno. With a similar tried-and-tested engine to the Grand i10, its younger sibling, durability with the hatchback was never an issue. The introduction of BS6 has watered down the motor’s urgency feel for sure but Hyundai has not compromised at all on the never-break-down philosophy. i20 diesel continued with the same legacy but had to be discontinued due to stricter emission norms. For the enthusiasts, the Koreans had to bring in the N Line, its performance-oriented division, to India.  Venue Hyundai Venue was an instant hit and even though customers had their reservations at first, the SUV did not disappoint a bit. Venue impresses with its blend of stylish looks and potent engines, including a diesel, all of which are easy on the pocket and fun to drive. If that wasn’t enough, the Venue gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine from the Creta that’s number one, fuel-efficient, number two, super punchy and at last, extremely durable.  You can run miles on this one while getting superior mileage and peace of mind. Though the 1.0-litre turbo may not be as popular as the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, Hyundai made sure that the added components don’t weaken the sub-four metre SUV’s reliance. Creta The final nameplate in this list has to be the Hyundai Creta. In the compact SUV space, the Creta has been an undisputed leader and is among the pioneers who popularised the section. Even in its pre-facelift avatar, the Creta’s sales were not affected when major manufacturers like Maruti, Tata and Volkswagen were constantly refreshing their SUV lineup. It gets three powertrain options: Two 1.5-litre engines including a turbocharged one and a diesel. No matter which engine you choose, the Creta offers great performance and is heavy-duty. What is RPM in Car & Its Importance

What is RPM in Car & Its Importance

Revolutions per minute or RPM simply refers to the number of times a car engine’s crankshaft turns in a minute. The same can be observed in the RPM metre usually housed in the driver’s instrument cluster beside the speedometer. It is very important to understand RPM to strike the right balance between engine performance and fuel efficiency. Read along to learn about the significance of RPM in cars.  Working of RPM in a Car Engine To better understand the concept of RPM, let us take the example of an internal combustion engine. We all know that the engine runs on a mixture of air and fuel and this mixture enters the motor when the driver accelerates, ultimately leading to the opening of inlet valves. The more the acceleration, the higher the revolutions of the crankshaft, causing high RPM. This also results in increased fuel consumption.  It is to be noted that the peak power and torque figures need not come at the end of the RPM range. Car manufacturers always make it a point to disclose when an engine’s peak horsepower and torque are achieved in the rev band. If a car’s engine is revving at 3x1,000 rpm, it implies that the crankshaft is rotating 3,000 times in a minute.  Turbocharged Engines have a habit of spooling up at a certain rpm producing an instant rush of torque. If you have a turbocharged car, you can learn about the peak rev band in the car’s manual. This happens because turbochargers let in extra air once they are awakened by the combustion gases. Also Read: Best Panoramic Sunroof Cars in India (Updated 2024) Making the Best Use of RPM An engine running on high RPMs will have high noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels and generate a lot of heat as well, resulting in engine wear and tear and high maintenance costs. Daily driver cars are not designed for revving high for long periods as it hampers the car’s mileage.  A good rev band for extracting the best mileage out of your car is from 1,500 to 2,000 rpm. However, you may need to rev or accelerate beyond the above range depending on the road conditions, including an incline or offroad. Another factor to consider is that in petrol cars, driving in higher gears (5th or 6th gear) means you are going at a high speed but the same may not be the case with diesel cars. They can even run at a lower RPM of 2,000 at low speeds as they produce enough torque.  Monitor your RPM and Its Benefits Monitoring your car’s revolutions goes beyond extracting mileage and power. If you were to notice your RPM fluctuating at idle, it can be cause for concern and seeking a technician’s help can solve the problem. Common causes of irregular RPM are clogged carburettor, dirty air filter and faulty spark plugs. If not addressed at the earliest, it may cause a significant drop in the mileage and may result in other engine problems.  Also Read- What is a Turbo Engine in Cars & How it Works? FAQs Q1. What is a good RPM for a Car? It is ideal to drive your car at lower RPMs, usually in the range of 1,500 to 2,000 rpm. This results in lower fuel consumption and an increase in the mileage.  Q2. Do Automatic Cars have RPM? Yes, RPM is present in cars with automatic transmissions and it is adjusted according to the road conditions by the vehicle. Q3. What does 6,000 RPM Mean? A 6,000 RPM means that the engine’s crankshaft is rotating 6,000 times in a minute.

Hyundai Inster EV India - Top 5 Things To Know

The Korean automaker, Hyundai will finally introduce the locally developed Creta EV in the country in January 2025. Production of the Hyundai Creta EV is scheduled to commence in December this year. After the Creta EV, Hyundai will launch a sub-compact electric SUV based on the Inster EV.  Codenamed HE1i, the new Hyundai Inster EV will also mark the debut of Hyundai's global and affordable E-GMP (K) platform. The new electric SUV will be manufactured at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur factory. Hyundai Inster EV Design The Hyundai Inster EV appears identical to the Casper micro SUV on sale in select international markets. The styling is heavily changed to give it an EV-specific look. The rounded front fascia is intact, but it gets a new closed-off front grille, bigger LED round-shaped headlamps, LED DRLs on top and a new lower bumper with a silver bar surround. LED DRLs seem connected, but they are placed inside the glossy black strip that also houses the Hyundai logo. The side profile gives it a boxy profile, offering a clean surface, flat roofline and squarish glass areas. Squared-off wheel arches and black plastic cladding give it a tough look. The rear profile appears different from that of the Exter and the Casper. It gets a roof-mounted spoiler and LED pixelated tail lights that resemble the ones offered in the Ioniq 5. The Hyundai Inster EV has a big bumper that accommodates a larger skid plate and reverse lights and indicators.  Hyundai Inster EV Interior The Hyundai Inster EV comes with a layered dashboard finished in a dual-tone scheme. There is a large 10.25-inch digital instrument console and a 10.25-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment screen with navigation. The infotainment unit supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is a wireless charging dock that can also hold other stuff. The multi-functional steering wheel has a resemblance to bigger Hyundai EVs.  Hyundai claims that all seats of the Inster EV can be folded flat including the driver's seat for increased flexibility. It also gets a front bench seat option and heated front seats. The 50/50 split second-row seats come with a slide and recline function. Dimensions - Exter-Size EV The new Hyundai Inster EV is 3825mm long, 1610mm wide and 1575mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2580mm. The SUV has a boot space of 280 litres, which can be extended up to 351 litres.  Compared to the Hyundai Casper, the new Inster EV is 230mm longer and 15mm wider. The wheelbase is increased by a good 180mm, which allows Hyundai to create more space inside the cabin. It is almost similar in size to the Hyundai Exter.  Battery Pack and Range The Inster EV comes equipped with a 42 kWh battery pack as standard. It also gets a long-range 49 kWh battery as an option. Both models are equipped with front-axle mounted electric motors offering 97PS in the base variant and 115PS in the long-range variant. The peak torque stands at 147Nm for both variants.  The new Hyundai Inster EV is claimed to offer an electric range of 355km on a single charge. This small EV supports 120 kW DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. It comes with an 11 kW on-board charger as standard. The electric SUV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.  India Launch Details The new Hyundai Inster EV is likely to take another 18-24 months before launching in our market. The Korean automaker will introduce the Creta EV first in 2025, while the subcompact EV will arrive a year later. A possible launch in the second half of 2026 can't be ignored. Price & Competition The Hyundai Inster EV will be a direct rival to the Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3. We expect the new SUV to cost somewhere around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 14 lakh. The SUV will be locally developed at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur factory and will use the locally produced batteries from Exide.  Also See - Mahindra XUV 3XO Electric To Rival Tata Nexon EV - Launch Soon

Hyundai Bayon is Heading to India - Fronx Rival

Hyundai is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the fast growing Indian market. The company will introduce facelifts of existing SUVs and the electric iteration of the Hyundai Creta SUV. A new media report claims that Hyundai will launch 7 new SUVs in the country in the next 3 years. The big news is that the global Hyundai Bayon compact SUV is coming to India.  Hyundai Bayon India Launch Not just Bayon, Hyundai will introduce the Inster EV and the next-gen Venue compact SUV in the country. The Hyundai Bayon was originally introduced for the European market. However, the report claims that the SUV would come as a direct rival to the successful Maruti Suzuki Fronx. While the exact launch timeline is yet to be revealed, we expect the new model could go on sale in 2026-27. Hyundai Bayon Key Details The new Hyundai Bayon will be positioned between the Exter and the Venue in the brand's India line-up. The new Bayon compact crossover is based on the new i20 platform. The 2025 model comes with the signature cascading front grille, and split headlamp setup, a horizontal air intake and a lower skid plate. The LED daytime running lamps are placed on top.  The side profile comes with an arrow-shaped C-pillar and a sloping roofline. There is a strong beltline that runs across the length. It gets black plastic cladding that runs across the body. The rear also has arrow-shaped LED tail-lights connected by a thin horizontal light bar.  Interior Details The Hyundai Bayon shares its interior with the i20 hatchback; however, it gets some tweaks. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The lower variants could be fitted with an 8-inch infotainment unit. The SUV is likely to offer features like automatic climate control, a multi-functional steering wheel, Level 1 ADAS tech, ambient lighting and others.  The global-spec model measures around 4.2 meters in length. However, the India-spec Hyundai Bayon is expected to sit under 4 meters in length. The small SUV rides on a 2,580mm long wheelbase, which is similar to that of the India-spec i20 hatchback.  What’s Under The Hood? The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 175Nm of torque. The small crossover could also receive a 82bhp, 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely on offer.
