Kia Carens is a crossover MPV. Since its launch in 2021, the MPV has turned into a strategic model for the Indian market. The worldwide version of Carens has been available since 1999, though for the very first time, it reached the Indian market in 2021. The MPV is built on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform and emphasizes roominess, especially third-row seating, which is one of the best options for a family car. Practical in its modern design and with competitive pricing, it has quickly become popular as an MPV in the Indian market.
The Kia Carens price starts at Rs. 1059900 and goes up to Rs. 1993900 (ex-showroom). The new offering will consequently appeal to a wide range of customer groups.
There are 19 broad variants—premium, prestige, prestige plus, luxury, and the new gravity edition based on the premium (O) variant. The petrol or diesel engine can be opted for, with the choice of either a manual or an automatic transmission in each variant.
Most Value of money variant
The Prestige trim base of Rs. 12.12 lakh comes with great value for money, including LED DRLs, automatic headlamps, and keyless entry, among other things.
The Kia Carens comes well-built with all the active features that are designed to ensure you stay comfortable and also conveniences at the same time. The infotainment system and digital instrument cluster have been mated on a pair of dual 10.25-inch displays; the ride also features a BOSE 8-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, a one-touch electric tumble feature for the second-row seats, and there are two options to choose from, six-seater or seven-seater comfort. Roof vents, cabin air filters, and wireless phone charging enhance the premium feel of the car. The Carens also can provide cool cup holders and seat-back tables for its rear-seat passengers.
Another remarkable feature of the Kia Carens is its mileage, especially for a vehicle in the MPV segment. The diesel manual variant also packs an economy of 21.3 kmpl, making it a good option for a person who focuses on fuel efficiency. The petrol variants are, too, quite efficient; the naturally aspirated petrol engine comes with fair fuel consumption in city and highway usage.
Kia has equipped the Carens with many safety features, like six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-start assist, and also front and rear parking sensors. The dual-camera feature in the MODEL has the dashcam associated with it, while earlier, the same safety-rated 3 stars achieved in Global NCAP crash tests, it means it is a great bet for family safety.
The Kia Carens comes in eight different single-tone exterior colors: Sparkling Silver, Moss Brown, Imperial Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White, and Intense Red. Vibrant options are provided to the buyer, wherein one can choose a color of his or her choice. Imperial Blue is highly preferred as it looks elegant.
Three engines are available on the Kia Carens so that it meets the preferred taste. It is offered in a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol variant with a power of 113.42bhp and 144Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual. Another version, which is touted as a turbo-petrol, is with 157.81bhp and 253Nm. And the gearbox options include a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT. There is also a 1.5-litre diesel engine that delivers a power of 114.41bhp and 250Nm, and is available with a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, and 6-speed automatic gearbox. All of these would perhaps make it even more convenient for the buyer to decide on how his usage will be.
The Kia Carens is spacious at 4,540 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,708 mm in height. Ample leg space is provided because the 2,780 mm wheelbase allows for the provision of generous space in the legs, particularly for occupants of the second and third rows. The car boasts a boot space of 216 litres, which can be extended to even larger capacities by folding the third row of seats for maximum luggage space when required.
The Kia Carens is positioned above the Hyundai Alcazar, Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Rumion, and Renault Triber's MPVs and crossovers but brings more or less the same features and space at considerably lower price points. Other entries are the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto, with prices at a premium and quite a bit higher than what the Carens has to offer.
