The Mahindra Scorpio has been one of the most popular SUVs in India since its inception in 2002. To capitalize on the growing popularity, Mahindra launched the Scorpio N in the country in June 2022.
The new Mahindra Scorpio-N is based on a new and stronger ladder-frame chassis. Adding to it, the SUV gets more powerful diesel and petrol engines. Staying true to its DNA, the SUV gets 4-wheel-drive system and off-road hardware. The SUV is positioned above the Scorpio Classic, which was launched to celebrate the success of the Original Scorpio.
The new Mahindra Scorpio-N is available in 5 trims - Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L - in total of 34 variants. The Scorpio-N price in India starts at Rs 1399199 and goes up to Rs 2469099. All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
Best Value-for-Money Variant
The base variant is the most value-for-money variant, which comes standard with safety and convenience features like electronic stability control, hill start assist, and a 7-inch LCD screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It's rear-wheel-drive and should be appropriate for city driving, but it'll have mild off-road capabilities. Those wanting to venture into hardcore off-road endeavors are best off getting the Z8 4WD variant instead.

More features include ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming IRVM, a wireless charger, and a single-pane sunroof. The SUV also has dual-zone air conditioning and rear air-con vents.
The new Mahindra Scorpio-N is available with two engine options - 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel. The petrol engine produces 203PS and 370Nm with manual and 380Nm with automatic gearbox.
The diesel engine offers two states of tunes. In lower state of tune, the engine produces 132PS and 300Nm of torque. In higher state of tune, the engine makes 175PS and 370Nm of torque. The torque increases to 400Nm with the automatic gearbox.
The 175PS, 2.2L diesel Scorpio-N offers three drive modes - Zip, Zap and Zoom. In Zip mode, the power is limited to 138PS. Gearbox choices are 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The rear-wheel drive layout comes as standard, while the higher-spec diesel variants also get a four-wheel-drive system.
The new Mahindra ScorpioN comes with off-road credentials. The off-road hardware includes mechanical locking rear differential, a 5-link rear suspension and an independent front suspension setup. It also gets ESP based brake locking front differential.
It offers four terrain modes - Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut, and Sand. It has Mahindra's new 4 XPLOR 4WD system with a low-range mode.
The ScorpioN petrol version is claimed to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 13.29kmpl. The diesel version delivers 16.23kmpl. In real world condition, the SUV's petrol and diesel return around 9-10kmpl and 12-13kmpl, respectively.
The new Scorpio-N measures 4662mm in length, 1917mm in width and 1857mm in height. It rides on a wheelbase of 2750mm, while the ground clearance stands at 187mm. The SUV's fuel tank capacity is 57-litres. The SUV offers an impressive boot space of 470-litres.
