German automaker Volkswagen has released new teasers of an all-new compact SUV that will be the brand's smallest SUV globally. The new model will be positioned below the Taigun/T-Cross compact SUV and will make its official debut in 2025. Likely to be called the Volkswagen Yeh, the new model will first go on sale in the Brazilian market.
Internally called the Volkswagen A0 SUV, the new compact SUV will first debut in Brazil in the next few days. It is most likely Volkswagen's version of the Skoda Kylaq sub-4 meter SUV. The new VW Yeh compact SUV will be designed and developed on the MQB-A0 platform, which also underpins several Skoda and Volkswagen cars. As a reference, the current-gen Polo, the Nivus crossover and the T-Cross available in the South American market.
Volkswagen is currently selling the Taigun and Virtus sedan, which are based on the Indianized version of the MQB AO platform. This platform is modified to accommodate India-specific models. In fact, Skoda's Kushaq and Slavia are also based on the same architecture. The upcoming Skoda Kylaq compact SUV will also be developed on the same MQB AO IN platform.
The new Volkswagen A0 compact SUV will ride on a wheelbase of around 2.5 metres with overall length restricted to around 4 metres. The company is yet to release its official name, but an official page is already live with a code that reveals the SUV's name will have 5 letters.
The new compact SUV will carry the brand's global design language, which we have already seen on select Volkswagen models in the global markets. The new model sports a slimmer front grille with a taller bumper. It will have a connected tail lamp setup at the back. The teaser reveals that the new model will come with a coupe-like roofline.
Engine details are yet to be revealed. We expect the new model to receive a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. Both manual and torque convertor automatic gearbox options are likely on offer.
