Skoda Kylaq is no doubt a strong compact SUV, really robustly bodied, and quite stylish. For sure, with further options for better value, more features, and even one or two more powerful engines, you won't go without choosing one out of the many in the market. Great features, plenty of other cars, and powerful engines easily qualify as being better than the Skoda Kylaq on each level. Here are a few of the top alternatives you ought to consider over Kylaq if you are in the market for a compact SUV.
The price of Tata Nexon ranges from Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 15.80 lakh. If you are looking for something even richer in features and versatility, then the Tata Nexon shall be a very great alternative. The Kylaq does not have such a wide range of engines available, mainly petrol and diesel. However, Nexon will give you this freedom, and you will also have the variants of petrol, diesel, and CNG. Features such as dual 10.25-inch displays, connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera are simply not to be found or are available in limited numbers in the Kylaq.
Space-wise, there is enough for five adults. Boot space, too, is impressive at 382 litres in the Nexon. That's the turbo-petrol 118.35 bhp and the 113.42 bhp for the 1.5-litre diesel mill. Both the engines deliver great performance as well as mileage. The Nexon also boasts of a 5-star NCAP rating, along with its basics: six airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), and hill-hold assist. Petrol returns 17 to 24 kmpl. Diesel returns 23 to 24 kmpl. With all its features and performance, the Nexon emerges as the most sensitive alternative feature packer along with the Kylaq.
The second serious contender is the Mahindra XUV 3XO, priced between Rs. 7.99 lakh and Rs. 15.49 lakh. It comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant gives between 108.49 bhp and 128.22 bhp. The diesel produces 115.39 bhp, thereby making the car better than the Kylaq.
The XUV 3XO performs equally well in terms of interior space, where five adults are accommodated with ease. Though the boot space is at 295 litres, the cabin remains very comfortable with good headroom and knee room, especially for taller occupants. Feature-packed, it boasts a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Harman Kardon audio, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera. The XUV 3XO is rated 5-star by NCAP, so features such as six airbags, ESC, and Level 2 ADAS are offered in higher trims. Not too stellar mileage on XUV 3XO; petrol is at 9-14 kmpl and diesel is 13-16 kmpl, but packs in more punch and a better set of features for the money.
For those scouting for a well-equipped compact SUV, this is when the Hyundai Venue will also serve as a great alternative to the Skoda Kylaq. The car is available starting at Rs. 7.94 lakh and goes up to Rs. 13.48 lakh. Choices of engines are pretty abundant too: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre diesel engine, to name a few. This one packs lots of features under its offer, from an 8-inch touchscreen, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and ADAS, to a sunroof.
The Venue isn't so huge, but the way it can pack four passengers very comfortably is terrific. On the safety front, it's well-endowed with Level-1 ADAS, six airbags, ESC, and TPMS. The Venue also offers very good fuel efficiency for the petrol variants and 22.7 kmpl for the diesel variants. So, if someone considers the existence of advanced tech features and fuel economy, the Venue offers more compared to the Kylaq and is well worth consideration.
The Maruti Dzire sedan cannot be left out though-again, for a sheer value-for-money appeal at a relatively more affordable price for those who insist on high mileage over fuel efficiency and even lesser maintenance expenses over the Skoda Kylaq. Price starts at Rs. 6.79 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 10.14 lakh. The new Dzire boasts a 5-star NCAP safety rating and is available with a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and cruise control.
The current Dzire is also rather frugal on fuel. Even its petrol variants and the CNG variant are able to deliver up to 25.71 kmpl and 33.73 km/kg, respectively. This sedan may appeal to small families, as it offers a roomy interior and adequate legroom along with a decent boot space. The Dzire offers excellent mileage, low cost of ownership, and high safety ratings, which are a plus if you are looking for one that offers great value for the money over the Kylaq.
If you need something more extensive and premium than the Skoda Kylaq, then the Maruti Grand Vitara comes into the picture. Starting from Rs. 10.99 lakh and stretching to Rs. 20.99 lakh, the Grand Vitara offers, to an extent much roomier cabin as well as a far more refined set of features. The car is seen in three variants of engines: 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre CNG, and even a hybrid 1.5 litre with an impressive mileage of 27.97 kmpl.
The Grand Vitara also boasts some fantastic specifications, such as a 9-inch HD screen, six airbags, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger. The boot is deeper at 373 litres, much bigger than anything in the Kylaq. The Grand Vitara stands tall in its hybrid model, which uses much better fuel efficiency, so in case you are taking a long drive, this is the right car for you. It's a bigger car compared to other compact SUVs, which makes for a way more comfortable drive. This is one of the downsides; it has a larger size. On the positive side, a hybrid engine will look quite all right as compared to others in the same class.
Skoda Kylaq undoubtedly is a strongly deserving player in the compact SUV segment. Here are some of the strong competitors and thus better alternatives that may exactly meet your needs. In Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300, the money spent would fetch better performance plus many more features than Hyundai Venue. Indeed, advanced tech options and excellent fuel efficiency make the Hyundai Venue stand apart in comparison to it.
For budget-conscious buyers, the Maruti Dzire would be the ideal option, as it comes with the minimum amount of maintenance and great fuel efficiency. Last but not least, the Maruti Grand Vitara is one of the most premium-spaced choices available, especially if one is looking to have a hybrid motor. Whether it is power, features, or budget, these cars might be a better option compared to the Skoda Kylaq, depending on your preferences.
