BMW has launched the i4 electric sedan in India; Priced at Rs. 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom); Offers a range of 590 Kilometres and will be sold as a CBU unit.
BMW India has launched the i4 electric sedan, it's 3rd EV offering in the Indian market. The vehicle was introduced globally in March 2021 and unveiled in India on 28th April 2022. Today the company announced the introductory price for the car at Rs. 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The i4 is India’s longest-range EV, with 590 kilometres on a full charge. The bookings are open and the deliveries will commence from July 2022. The four-door sedan will be sold in India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route and is available only in the eDrive40 variant.
The i4 is the electric version of the 4-Series coupe which in-turn is a repurposed version of the standard 3-Series. Like its ICE counterpart, the electric sedan is built on the company’s CLAR platform, which accommodates ICE, Plug-in Hybrid and EV powertrain.
BMW i4 Design:
The design of the electric sedan is inspired from its 4-Series and features the classic kidney grille with active air flap. The vehicles identity has been slightly modified to adhere to its EV nature. The four-wheeler also gets a new set of aerodynamic alloy wheels that reduce drag helping the sedan achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.24. The overall design reeks of electric vibes with blue inserts, sleek pillar, slim flameless doors and a coupe-like floating roofline. The rear profile of the four-wheeler features a split-type LED tail lights extending to the sides and a bumper with gloss black elements. The environmental friendly sedan measures 4,783 mm in length, 1,852 mm in width, and 1,488 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,856 mm which is slightly larger than the standard 3-Series sedan.
BMW i4 Interiors:
Coming to the interiors, the BMW i4 gets a single piece curved dual screen with a 12.3 inch and a 14.6-inch display angled towards the driver. The system gets the 8th generation iDrive technology with OTA updates, voice assistant, gesture control and Level 2 Autonomous Driving Technology. Other highlights include powered front seats with ventilation, 3 zone climate control, sports steering wheel, sports seats, 16 speaker Harmon Kardon music system, ambient lighting and more.
BMW i4 Powertrain:
The powertrain in the eDrive40 trim features an 80.7 kWh battery pack and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The electric motor produces 340 hp and 430 Nm of torque, making the i4 lunge from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds, while the top speed is electronically restricted to 190 kmph. According to the carmaker, the 205 kW DC fast charger adds 164 km of range in just 10 minutes, while the more common 50 kW DC charger can charge the battery from 0-80 % in just 83 minutes.
In India, the BMW i4 does not face any direct competition. However, the electric sedan can give the more expensive Audi e-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan and other EVs, a run for their money with a better range as well as a greater price to value proposition.
