Priced at Rs. 5.40 crore, the sports car replaces the F8 Tributo in the Ferrari’s line-up; Powered by a 2.9-litre Hybrid V6 engine; Get a retractable hard-top
Following its international debut in June 2021, Ferrari has launched the 296 GTB in the Indian market at a sticker price of Rs. 5.40 crore (ex-showroom). The GTB is the first V6-powered sports car after the Dino 246 GT which was discontinued in 1974.
The heart of the matter in the new GTB is a 2.9 litre twin-turbo V6 engine paired to a plug-in hybrid system. The power output of the system is rated at 830 bhp and 740 Nm. The addition of a the hybrid system will help the four-wheeler catapult from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds. The power is channelled to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The power 7.42 kW plug-in hybrid system gives an electric only range of 42 km while restricting the top speed to 135 kmph.
On the outside, the Ferrari takes inspiration from the flagship SF90 Stradale, with horizontally positioned headlamps and a wide front grille below it. Towards the sides, the sportscar get strong lines and a prominent air intake. Moving to the rear, we see a set of sleek LED tail lamps, a single piece exhaust and a carbon fibre diffuser adding to the visual bulk. The 296 GTB also gets an active rear wing which lends an additional 100kg of downforce during high-speed runs.
The minimalistic approach is continued to the interiors of the supercar, which has given the infotainment unit a miss. The company has decided to use the large digital instrument cluster as the control unit for all in car functions. In addition, there is a separate screen in-front of the passenger displaying speed, rpm and other data (available as an optional accessory).
The Ferrari 296 GTB replaces the F8 Tributo in the brand’s line-up. The supercar weighs just 1470 kg and has a wheelbase that is 50 mm shorter than the F8 Spider. It also gets the latest version of Ferrari’s ‘Side Slip Control’ traction system.
In India, the Ferrari 296 GTB takes on the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan and the upcoming Maserati MC20.
