India’s #1
New Car Buying Platform
It is no secret that Hyundai is working on an all-new electric SUV based on the Creta SUV. This model is scheduled to be launched sometime in early next year, most probably in January. In order to accommodate the new Creta EV, Hyundai has silently discontinued the Kona electric SUV from the Indian market. The electric SUV is no longer listed on Hyundai's official website.
The Kona electric was one of two Hyundai EVs on sale in India. The other electric car from Hyundai is the Ioniq 5, which will continue to be on sale. Priced at Rs 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kona EV was positioned against the likes of the MG ZS EV and the higher variants of the Mahindra XUV400 and the Tata Nexon EV.
The Hyundai Kona electric was equipped with a 39.2kWh battery pack. It features a front-axle mounted electric motor that is rated at 131bhp and offers an impressive torque of 395Nm. The electric SUV was claimed to offer a certified range of up to 452km on a single charge.
Hyundai has not revealed any specific reason behind the discontinuation of the Kona electric. It could be the move to create enough space to accommodate Creta EV. The Hyundai Creta EV will be introduced as a brand's locally developed electric SUV and will compete against the likes of the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Tata Curvv, Maruti Suzuki eVX and Honda Elevate EV.
