The Suzuki Jimny 5-door made in India broke all the records in bookings in Japan. It is so much in demand that in the very first four days after the launch, 50,000 orders for Jimny Nomade as it is called in Japan have been done. Such has been the demand that Suzuki has temporarily stopped accepting any further bookings since requests surpass production.
This vehicle is produced from the Gurugram plant of Maruti Suzuki, India. Only 1,200 units of the car per month have been allocated for the production in Japan. Heavy demand has been witnessed due to which waiting time has reached as long as 3.5 years; keeping in mind the fact that it is not increasing further. So, bookings are closed by Suzuki, and there is no declared opening date either.
Jimny Nomade would come in two trims and hit the Japanese dealerships from April 3. The 5-speed manual costs Rs. 14.88 lakh and the 4AT priced at Rs. 15.43 lakh, ex-sowroom. The vehicle is a premium off-roader SUV manufactured for adventure-loving drivers in Japan.
This was a huge milestone for Maruti Suzuki's export strategy because the Jimny 5-door was doing exceptionally well in Japan. The car does not sell this well in India, and here it remains the lowest-selling car in its stable. The Jimny 5-door, however, is a different story abroad. The company has already made a name in Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. Such will, therefore indicate an opportunity of taking it even further afield, as exemplified by a strong Jimny export figure of the one done in Japan.
Although the 5-door Jimny has not been a best-seller in India, it is still proving helpful for Maruti Suzuki to reach the world. Maruti Suzuki has really gone all out with its export business and Fronx and Jimny have done very well in overseas markets. While the Jimny cannot get any substantial market share in India, it is going great guns elsewhere, and the "Make-in-India for the world" strategy of Maruti Suzuki seems strong.
