Isuzu has revealed the D-Max EV, an all-electric version of its popular pick-up truck. Keeping the rugged features of the diesel model, the D-Max EV offers zero-emission driving, full-time four-wheel drive, and a 1,000kg payload capacity, making it perfect for both work and play.
The Isuzu D-Max EV is based on the facelifted international model introduced in 2024, not the version currently sold in India. Visually and functionally, the electric variant remains nearly identical to the diesel D-Max.
Inside the cabin, the D-Max EV offers familiar features, including:
For now, Isuzu is offering the electric version only in double-cab configuration, targeting both commercial users and lifestyle buyers.
Under the skin, the Isuzu D-Max EV employs a dual-motor setup, with one motor on each axle delivering a combined 190hp and 325Nm of torque. It sprints from 0-100kph in 10.1 seconds and achieves a top speed of over 125kph.
A 66.9kWh battery pack mounted under the floor provides a WLTP-certified range of 262km. Fast charging at speeds of up to 50kW allows a 20 to 80 percent recharge in around one hour. While functional for short hauls and urban runs, the range is on the lower side compared to other modern EVs.
Despite housing a heavy battery pack, the D-Max EV doesn’t compromise on off-road prowess. It retains 210mm of ground clearance, a wading depth of 600mm, and approach/departure angles of 30.5° and 24.2°, respectively.
A new de Dion rear suspension setup replaces the traditional leaf springs to enhance ride comfort and load management. With permanent 4WD and a dedicated Rough Terrain Mode, the D-Max EV ensures reliable performance on challenging terrain.
The EV can carry over 1 tonne in its bed and tow up to 3,500kg, although Isuzu hasn’t disclosed the exact impact of towing on driving range.
Isuzu has yet to confirm if the D-Max EV will be launched in India. However, with the country's EV infrastructure gradually improving and a growing demand for electric commercial vehicles, a future India launch remains a possibility.
