Maruti Suzuki has just issued a recall of the Eeco and S-Presso in India. The brand has said that it is being carried out to check a possible fault in a steering tie rod part that can affect vehicle handling. As of now, the automaker has recalled 86,999 units of the two models.
Maruti says the S-Presso and Eeco units that have been impacted were produced between July 5, 2021 and February 15, 2023. The automaker said, “It is suspected that there is a possible defect in a part of the steering tie rod, used in such vehicles, which is a rare case, may break and affect vehicle steerability and handling,". The homegrown manufacturer also said that its service centres will reach out to the owners of the affected vehicles for an inspection and replace the faulty part free of charge.
The latest recall makes it the fourth one for the brand in 2023, with a total of 1,23,351 units recalled so far. The first one was back in January which affected the S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara. It was due to a possible defect in the airbag controller. This could result in the non-deployment of the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners during a vehicle crash.
The second recall came just a few days later in January again, this time affecting the Grand Vitara. The company at that time said the recall was to inspect a possible defect in the rear seat belt mounting brackets. On rare occasions, these could loosen with time and impact functionality.
The automaker's last recall before this one was back in April to inspect over 7,000 units of the Baleno RS for possible vacuum pump defects. The system assists the vehicle’s braking, and a fault would likely require extra effort in pressing the brake pedal.
In 2012, SIAM passed a voluntary vehicle recall policy. Since then, Maruti has issued 29 recalls, affecting 8,63,901 vehicles. The latest recall of the Eeco and S-Presso is the third largest one for the Japanese automaker.
