New Nissan mid-sized SUV will be launched in the Indian market in the financial year, 2026. It will be based on the same CMF-B modular architecture that underpins the new Renault Duster, which will also arrive in our market in Q1, 2026. Nissan has also dropped new teasers of the mid-sized SUV, which shows some of its design.
The new Nissan SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and Maruti Grand Vitara. The third-gen Renault Duster and the new Nissan SUV, both will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance's factory in Chennai. It will also be exported to select LHD and RHD markets.
The new Nissan SUV will be a petrol-only model. It will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 155bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Nissan could also introduce an entry-level variant with a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a manual gearbox. It is early to comment whether the new Nissan SUV will get the AWD setup, which is offered on the third-gen Duster on sale in the global markets.
Nissan is not likely to use the Terrano nameplate for the upcoming mid-sized SUV. It will be positioned slightly above the Renault Duster and will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others in the category.
Moreover, Nissan will also launch a 7-seater version of the mid-sized SUV. Renault will also introduce the 7-seater Duster, rumoured to be called the Bigster in India. Both SUVs are likely to arrive in the country by the end of FY2026.

The teaser confirms that the new Nissan SUV will have similar shape as the new Renault Duster, but it has unique design elements. Some of the styling is inspired by the larger Patrol SUV. The new compact SUV comes with a uniquely styled front fascia, featuring L-shaped LED daytime running lights that are connected by a chrome strip. There are two thin chrome bars that runs across the entire length of the front grille with the Nissan logo sits right in the centre.
The SUV has slimmer headlamps, newly designed front bumpers with C-shaped silver cladding, pronounced creases and bonnet scoops, and newly styled alloy wheels.
Nissan is yet to revealed the interiors of the mid-sized SUV, but it is likely to share components and body panels with the Duster. It will have more upmarket interior and features. The SUV will be equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 7-inch digital instrument console.
Other features could include a 360-degree surround view camera, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, multiple airbags, traction control, TPMS, ESC, drive modes and others. The new Nissan SUV could also receive LEVEL 2 ADAS tech with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and others.
