It is no secret that the third generation Renault Duster will arrive in our market in early 2026. Not just Duster, the brand will also introduce a new 7-seater SUV based on the Duster before the end of 2026. Renault has already confirmed that it won't bring back diesel cars in our market. A strong hybrid engine could be an ideal replacement for the diesel, and Renault is evaluating a strong hybrid powertrain for India.
A new media report claims that the new Renault Duster and Bigster could get a strong hybrid powertrain in India. Both SUVs are already on sale in global markets with a fuel efficient hybrid engine. The French brand is evaluating range extenders and strong hybrids for the fast growing Indian auto market. Also See - New Renault Duster - Frequently Asked Questions
It is reported that the Duster Hybrid could be launched in 2026; however, Renault is yet to make an official announcement on the same. In the global markets, the Duster comes with a strong hybrid powertrain. The strong hybrid unit comprising a 94bhp, 1.6L petrol engine, a 49bhp electric motor and a high voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery. The combined power output stands at 140bhp. The same could be offered in our market.
Moreover, the SUV is also available with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. The combined power output stands at 130bhp. The report reveals that a mild hybrid powertrain won't make sense in our market.
The SUV will initially launched in petrol-only avatar. It will be powered by a 1.3L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The company could also opt for an entry-level variant with a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a manual gearbox.
The new Renault Duster will be a direct rival to the Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Hyryder Hybrid. Not just Renault, Hyundai and Kia will also introduce their hybrid SUVs in India. The next-gen Kia Seltos hybrid has already been confirmed. Similarly, the next-gen Hyundai Creta will also receive a strong hybrid engine.
