Tata Harrier and Safari Receive 5-Star Safety Rating in Bharat NCAP

Bharat NCAP was long awaited and now it is finally here. The announcement of the commencement of operations comes with the news that 2 SUVs were recently crash-tested to find out their safety-worthiness. Belonging to Tata Motors, the Harrier and Safari came out on top with flying colours securing a 5 Star Safety Rating. The tests in question follow the same standards as Global NCAP while reducing the cost for Indian car manufacturers to get their vehicles tested at the independent (Atmanirbhar) facility of India. Besides Tata, other brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Kia are believed to have sent their products for testing.

WHAT IS BHARAT NCAP

Bharat NCAP stands for Bharat New Car Assessment Programme. It is India’s independent car crash test programme and facility which provides global standards of testing for car safety. It is an independent facility where Indian car manufacturers can voluntarily send their new cars to get crash tested. The test rates the car from 0 to 5 stars involving crashes from multiple angles.

The initiative attempts to urge manufacturers in India to produce safer cars.

Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said, “I’m delighted that the first ever vehicles being certified today with the highest achievable 5-star rating, are both from Tata Motors. I congratulate them on the award of this coveted certification with the highest possible rating and for continuing to enrich their legacy of introducing the safest vehicles on Indian roads.”
