Tata Nexon leads the top-selling cars list in January 2026 with impressive growth. Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Tata Punch continue to dominate their segments in January 2026. SUVs and MPVs like Hyundai Creta and Maruti Ertiga maintain strong sales in India.
Car sales in January 2026 showed strong demand across all segments, with the Top 10 best-selling cars accounting for 1,80,920 units, showing a 23.06% increase compared to the previous year. SUVs were still at the top, along with popular hatchbacks and MPVs.
Here is a list of top 10 best selling cars for January 2026:
Tata Nexon (including the electric version) was the best-selling car in January 2026, with 23,365 units sold. This marks an impressive 51.75% increase from last year. The Nexon continues to be popular for its design, features, and electric option.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire came in second with 19,629 units sold, showing a 27.60% increase. The Dzire remains a favorite in the subcompact sedan segment, offering great fuel efficiency and reliable performance.
Tata Punch, including the EV model, sold 19,257 units, growing 18.64% from last year. Tata Motors continues to see strong sales with the Punch, and the upcoming Punch facelift is expected to keep the momentum going.
Hyundai Creta (including the electric version) sold 17,921 units, though it experienced a slight 3.24% decline compared to last year. Even with the small dip, the Creta remains one of the top mid-size SUVs in India.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga recorded 17,892 units sold, showing a strong 25.58% increase. The Ertiga remains a top choice for families looking for a spacious and affordable MPV.
Maruti Suzuki Swift sold 17,806 units, with a 4.24% growth. Even with increasing competition, the Swift continues to be a strong performer due to its sporty design and affordability.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza posted 17,486 units, marking an 18.57% increase. The compact SUV remains popular for its value, features, and design.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno sold 16,782 units, showing a 15.94% decline compared to last year. While still among the top sellers, the Baleno is facing tough competition from compact SUVs like the Brezza and Nexon.
Mahindra Scorpio sold 15,542 units, showing a small 0.65% growth. The Scorpio remains a favorite for those looking for a rugged SUV with off-road capabilities.
Maruti Suzuki Victoris made it to the top 10 with 15,240 units sold. This new model is gaining popularity for its unique design and features, making it a strong competitor in the MPV and SUV market.
Maruti Suzuki continues to lead the market, contributing 58% of total sales and showing a 28.75% growth. Tata Motors achieved the highest growth, with a 34.76% increase thanks to the Nexon and Punch. Hyundai saw a slight decline, mainly due to lower sales of the Creta, while Mahindra remained steady with strong Scorpio demand.
