If you’re in the market for a compact SUV, patience might just pay off as several new models are ready to hit roads. OEMs such as Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Tata and Hyundai have planned new or updated models for this year, which are worth waiting for. Let’s delve into the key details of these upcoming compact SUVs.
Mahindra & Mahindra has planned two new electric SUVs for this year – the XUV 3XO EV and the XEV 7e. The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV has been on test for a while now. This electric compact SUV is likely to be offered with a 35kWh battery pack, offering a decent range on a full charge. The exact specifications are not available at this point. The EV is likely to look slightly different from its ICE version, with features such as a closed-off front grille, redesigned bumpers, aero-optimized alloy wheels and ‘EV’ badging.

Maruti Suzuki’s own strong hybrid powertrain is set to debut with the Fronx compact crossover this year. The hybrid version will come with the Z12E, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which will work as a generator to charge the battery (ranging between 1.5kWh – 2kWh) and drive the electric motor. The e-motor delivers power to the front wheels. Maruti Suzuki is developing a series hybrid tech, which might make the Fronx highly fuel efficient. As per media reports, the Maurti Fronx hybrid will deliver a mileage of over 35kmpl.
Renault India is gearing up to launch the updated Kiger in 2025. The spy images reveal that the 2025 Renault Kiger facelift might feature the slightly tweaked front and rear bumper. The hatchback could also mark debut of Renault’s new logo. Minimal changes will be made inside the cabin. The compact SUV is likely to get soft-touch materials and new upholstery along with some new features. Under the hood, the updated version will continue to house the 72 bhp, 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 100 bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol engines. Transmission choices will also remain intact – i.e. a 5-speed manual, an AMT and a CVT automatic.
Tata Punch is one of the top-selling models from the indigenous automaker in India. The official launch date and details of the updated Punch are not available at this moment. However, it is expected to receive minor changes inside and out. No mechanical updates are expected. The 2025 Tata Punch facelift will continue to come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine, producing a maximum power of 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The CNG fuel option will also be carried forward to the updated model.
The new-generation Hyundai Venue is set to arrive by October 2025. The hatchback’s all-new model will retain the boxy stance, while the front fascia will undergo major changes. It will feature a newly-designed grille and headlamps, inspired by the Creta SUV. The interior could be refreshed with the redesigned dashboard and features like a 360 degree camera and ventilated front seats. The 2025 Hyundai Venue will continue to come with the 1.0L turbo petrol, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. Hyundai’s Talegaon manufacturing facility will serve as production hub for the all-new Venue.
